I actually wouldn't mind using the GID if it was actually incorporated into the user interface, having to fiddle with the URL to navigate a webpage instead of interacting with the webpage itself just feels like no real thought was put into how a user would actually use the webpage.

Though I imagine if you made something that actually sorted the galleries by GID that was on the user interface, it would essentially just be the old paging system so I'm guessing that's out of the question? Also GID seems to be good if you're just going to the front page and just going to random galleries without any search filters, but as soon as you add filters using GID makes it hard to refine your search compared to the old page system:

i.e. I could search "big_breast" and yes the old system limited it to the first 100k while the new system allows all 300k+ to be shown, but who here actually would just use a single filter? once you add almost another other filter to the search it falls under that 100k threshold so that problem is already solved. Though funnily enough when you add more than one search term the new system doesn't even give you a number of results, it just says "many" which isn't helpful at all.

This just feels like common sense wasn't used for the implementation of this update, I mean I can't really think of any other database site that curates images that DOESN'T use a paging system for the user to sort their searches.

Honestly this just seems like one of those situations where back-end optimization isn't worth ruining the user experience.

the thing is, doing anything like that is pretty much just making pages again but more complicated, there is a rule when making a website or a software: always do it the easiest way for the client to use it. what is "obvious" for you could be like rocket science for a user.
I really don't want to think bad of the admins, but it is clear that the majority hates this change and want pages back, and being silent about our concerns while replying to other threads is just sad

Judging by the reactions of users that bothered to come here to comment, i am pretty sure the vast majority would prefer the old system.

This change bring no added value to the user, at all. Browsing went from easy and intuitive, to incredibly frustrating.

How is a system that requires to edit the "page link" an improvement? We need to keep tabs on "dates" to not lose the sense of continuity and order. If you have multiple tabs open it gets even more confusing.

There is a good reason why no other site works like this.

It makes browsing favorites a pain in the butt without page numbers. I rather have a # of image filter so I can filter all those galleries with just 2 images.

My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined...

If the site simply can not keep the old search it is what it is. We are all adults and know how the world works.

The quality of the browsing experience has gone down but this site is still awesome.

Here's an idea/script I wrote quickly that I think should help with jumping around quickly similar to how it was possible with pagination:

Probably could be improved a lot: second bar for finer / granular GID control, represent the shown GID as range/rectangle instead of 1px line, determine max GID more reliably, store known GID:Year map and show it as reference, ...

Everyone's (justifiably) complaining about the page numbers issue, but I wanna know why all of a sudden browsing expunged galleries is entirely separate from non-expunged. It's gonna be a pain in the ass to try to browse through expunged and non-expunged separately for every tag I'm interested in.

These guys be saying guess your GID when they aren't even in an easy to see numerical order, when people you can do their own estimates after using the site for years.

This update isn't an improvement for users, things moving on over time pages is expected in galleries and can accounted for by the human mind relatively easily. The amount of stuff added is relatively consistent. It's arbitrary but you can make an average to know the page amount to reach certain areas much faster.

Having to make 100s of bookmarks to try to keep you place in different searches isn't a time saving feature as you endlessly click through hundred of pages because you can't find what your looking for instead of typing a number looking at dates and doing the equivalent of some simple mental math.

Looking through the thread I haven't seen anybody excited about this, personally I've been keeping track of all new doujins for years at this point. Anyone new has my condolences because finding porn is going to be a clicking marathon with no easy indicator of how far you are.

Edit:FabulousCupcakes example at least made it somewhat easier to visualize even if it's not perfect some indicator is better than nothing.

Your biggest indicator that there's something wrong with the new system is when you have people coming out of the woodworks that only post once year on Christmas or none at all are posting.

My god, this is frustrating to navigate. I understand why you did it but from user experience it amazingly bad without page selector. For the sake of all what holy for us please reconsider and return page selector. I am someone who never use bookmark option and just browse gallery looking for something i like, sometimes it something very old which i dont remember name for but remember page in my search option. Sometimes my search hundreds of page long and I know it somewhere in middle and you tell me now i need scroll 50 pages to get where I need. I understand this update help admins but do you think it very backward to making experience for user very bad. Please reconsider.

Hi, just another guy here to complain about the removal of pages. I kinda get that they were causing technical issues but man this new system is just not good.

Eh, I'll take tenboro's word for it.
Mostly cause I have noticed a lot of searches were extremely slow, exponentially so too, just by adding more words. Trying to input a 5 word magazine name alone would take 20+seconds or timeout (without the quotation marks).
So if he says the current system would have been unsustainable in a year, it's probably true.
I don't like it but if the alternative is no site, shrugs...

nice update. We can do the same thing on E-Hentai Forums without page-selector.

the forums dont yet have a million threads with an unholy tag system per thread to search.

I was going to complain about the number, but let me try a useful suggestion. In advanced options we could have 4 options: normal search, expunged, lower power, torrent .
And this 4 options could interact with the other so if i want to see the normal and expunged i click in both. If i just want to see expunged i click only in expunged. It appears more intuitive than the way it is now.

It looks like a challenge, not a comic website.

Throwing my two cents as well, I never post, and I had to come here because I refused to believe that was an update people wanted. And, yeah, sure enough, nobody wanted that. Please undo this, it's pretty clear that this is unintuitive for end users.

well i dont know of any way to search deleted only in the old site anyway, so it is of limited use. does anyone know?

Longtime lurker. Everyone has said it best. The page numbers are worth whatever slowness/lag it brings. Tags are virtually unusable with this new layout. Please reconsider.
