Throwing this here in case somebody cares
As a dev, I understand that pagination can't stay due to technical reasons, but I think the lack of clarity, positioning and referencing is the biggest issue here.
Not being able to see how many clicks you're gonna need to reach the end of your results is frightening and discourages users from browsing. Expecting someone to calculate (results) / (display size) is unreasonable.
The points I want to bring attention to:
1. Isn't it possible to maybe have an indicator of how far we are from the 1st page/result ? This could help track how many new releases happened since we refreshed the page/started browsing.
2. A skip "several pages/results" (10/50/100) would help a lot
3. Also GID isn't very intuitive since it's not a tag and is limited to the URL. It also feels like nhentai, which I personally don't like.
4. Also the "new/prev" in the URL isn't very user friendly since there isn't always a continuity within filtered search, and not everyone touches the URL. I did several tests and I'm having a hard time finding it useful.
5. Couldn't there be a 'From/To' time filter ? I'm seeing a lot of people complain about browsing certain time period through pages, so wouldn't a time filter help compromise ?
6. Pages for Favorites should really come back...
7. The amount of galleries removed from page by filter is unnecessary. It doesn't help track anything useful.
Like some have said, this update is too technical and requires users to do many more steps for what they could do with 1 click, a fundamental UI/UX mistake.

>The update is expected to be fully deployed either today or tomorrow, unless any major issues are discovered.
The update itself is a major issue. This thing literally makes it as unpractical as possible to browse the site. I used to be at page 240 of the milf tag (so works from May 2022) working my way toward page 1 each day, but now I can no longer do that. I've been teleported to page 1, and to make the matter worse, the URL doesn't even state the page, so you can't even reach a page that way.... I literally don't under why website developers do that kind of stuff. It reminds me of what killed Deviantart in 2020...

I always use the page numbers, like a lot, this update really complicate things and finding stuff for me, that's why after years and years of lurking i decided to post. this pretty much kills tag diving and I guess most people will just stick to what is recently posted instead of being able to discover galleries by jumping pages. I really do hope paging comes back, no hate at all, I know you guys are all trying to make the site better, but I really can't see this change as a good thing

The minimum rating filter only works on the next page if you also select browse expunged galleries
edit: apparently you actually need to add a tag to search for too

I appreciate the new tag functionality a lot but I'm hoping you find some way to add page numbers back, browsing just isn't as enjoyable without them.

there is a comment going around saying something like "no one needs to go to page 30" but everyone I know and myself do tag diving, it is a great way to discover old galleries, page numbers and knowing which galleries you already watched were the greatest tools. like I said in my previous post, removing page numbers will bury a ton of old content and people will only find it if they are looking specifically for it.

Ya, the lack of page numbers is really hurting my viewing of the site, not to mention that a few times when I would click too much the site would get mad and kick me out the servers. I get on some level it can't come back, but any new features that were brought with the new update don't matter if I can't just casually browse to find new things. Even just the ability to skip a few pages compared to the extremes of 1 and first and last would be a better fit.

QUOTE(noones @ Nov 2 2022, 20:09) It probably has been considered, this seems like an update to the way indexing and searching the index was undertaken. It's essentially 0 load to click "next" (or next page). I would guess, the actual load comes from creating the paged indexes; which removing the pages accomplishes since now you don't have to worry about how many pages are needed for a given indexed search, they just display "endlessly" and show new results from the previously indexed search when clicking next (again, all supposition).
Also a lot of complaining for a site that gives you free, hard to find porn (depending obviously).
We bust our ass uploading crap and we can't complain?

I can understand that the main page numbering causes a huge load on the server but that shouldn't be the case with the favorite page right? I personnaly only have 16 fav pages and I just randomly click on one at every session. But now those in the middle are as good as dead unless I fell like click on "Next" a bunch of time. To be honnest i'd rather click on "page 5" and wait 5s, than having to click 5 times on "Next" and waits 5 times 1s.
If the main and favorite layout cannot be split, I do agree that having at leat a next 5/10/20 is a good alternative.

Is it possible to atleast have pages back as an option one can turn on inside the settings page, at the risk of slower searches? that way the people that want it like us can still use paging and the most "casual" lurkers that don't mind can use the new system?

I rarely come on to the forums but in this case I feel I have to say something. Please bring back page numbers. Trying to browse the site without them is an extremely miserable experience. Even navigating my favorites is messed up now.

The removal of page-numbers is a rather sorry excuse. No, that is not necassary and "jumping past GID XYZ" is a completely useless feature to most.
Give us back the page-number. Heck - if you claim that now the serach-results are a stable list that just shows that the page-numbers would now also be a stable set.....
With the expunged-search - why? Who asked for REMOVING that search-option? If i want to see if a particular piece was uploaded i now have to search twice. At least make it a tristate - by default excluded, clicking the setting includes everything, and then clicking again would be expunged only.

First post in 12 years. This site "upgrade" is on the same level of retardation as webdevs who make sites with years and years worth of content, but with no way to browse except:
Please scroll down to load more content.

although all the mobile apps are unofficial it would be appreciated if the page numbers were brought back, because i think the removal of page numbers broke a bit of their search functions, since all of them are now just stuck on the first page of anything you search for. much appreciated if they were brought back (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) but if there's really a technical aspect as to why they cant be brought back then that's ok too, not the end of the world.
