I've never really posted before but a quick question or two.
In favorites I used to be able to see galleries that were removed, but now it seems I cannot. Can that be brought back at all? It used to be useful to know what had gotten disappeared even if it was not viewable anymore. At least I could not waste time fishing for something I thought should exist or to have a lead to try and look for the missing content elsewhere.
Is there some way to know about where you are between first and last page? Or to jump forward or backward a few pages without knowing what GID range you are looking for? Going forward or backward 1 page at a time only from first or last is extremely tedious. I also really have no clue what GID values correspond to what so punching them in is basically going to a random page and then I have no idea if I'm near the back or front end. It's also now a giant hassle to get to, say, around the middle of the search results without knowing what value middle is. I can live with page results being gone, but I did used to jump to say, 1/4 of the way through the pages of my favorites or whatever to start browsing that region and I have no idea how to do that now.

These changes feel mostly great. I love being able to jump to the last page of even a large result set, and the negative-only search is super useful. Thanks for them.
However I agree with the other posters about some problems as well. I feel like there should be some kind of a "progress" indicator that tells me how far I'm into browsing the result set, and how much is still left. Otherwise it feels like I'm browsing half blind with no idea where I am within the result set. It doesn't need to be paging per se, but feel like there should be some way to gauge the "distance" I've come and how much there is to go.
I'd also like some way to jump to an arbitrary location within the results. I often used the "jump to page" function to find new content that I haven't seen yet. Like I'd jump randomly to say page 50 or 200 or whatever and look around for unseen content for specific tags. Again, it doesn't have to be paging, but I'd like some way to jump around the result set, for example as percentages or something. I don't even need anything super precise, something like "jump to roughly the midway point" and "jump to roughly the 70% point" would be fine.
I use the site quite a lot and I've seen quite a few galleries, so I need ways to navigate search results conveniently in order to find new galleries or to refind some old galleries that I only half remember.

It may be a dumb question, but as the site updating, my script is failed... it's originally hide the message of this part, "Your default filters removed 42 galleries from this page. [Disable Filters]", can anyone help me? thanks.
(function() { 'use strict'; let resultMessage = document.evaluate('.//p[@class = "ip"][starts-with(text(), "Showing")]', document.body, null, XPathResult.FIRST_ORDERED_NODE_TYPE, null).singleNodeValue; resultMessage.textContent = resultMessage.textContent.match(/Showing [0-9,]+ results?/)[0]; // Your code here... })();

Gonna have to join the group of people who are making their first forum post here. This is a terrible update for 99% of users' experience and was probably also done so you won't notice when galleries are removed due to DMCA. I think most people would rather deal with the few seconds of search time, once, to be able to jump to a page number, instead of spending 30 minutes fiddling and guessing the GID for a specific time range within a tag.

Each GID as far as I can tell is an incrementing index from the very first gallery (1) to whatever the last was (~2.4M as of this post). So I'd do some mental math (if I want to look at something from the beginning of the site, I tell it 1000 or so and go up). To me I would add a box that would 'center' the results to a given ID, so that if I wanted to jump to closest result to GID:[1,000,000] I can. Have it strip out separators and all that jazz. I have a very small favorites list (less than 50) so I am not sure how to parse favorites though.

Holy shit, the search results aren't even linear, why the fuck would you think anyone would ever want this? How can you do design UI this goddamn badly?

Can you at least thoroughly explain how the new GID search work? The whole update seems confusing for most user without explanation

The GID is the set of number right after g/ in the browser i.e. https://e-hentai.org/g/2365442/a66c0faa2e/The gid of this one is 2365442 and can be searched by using gid:2365442 This post has been edited by epa: Nov 2 2022, 17:53

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Nov 2 2022, 11:09) Overall, these changes allow for massive performance improvements (three orders of magnitude in some common cases) as well as significant new functionality (keep reading), and there are no longer any limits to how large a search result can be. Search terms that were previously capped to 100,000 results (like say "big breasts" which is tagged on 350K+ galleries) can now be browsed in their entirety.
I failed to spot this gem. Oh yeah, guys, it's ok, WE CAN PAGE THROUGH THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF PAGES NOW, BUT ONE PAGE AT A TIME, ISN'T THAT GREAT? ISN'T THAT SUCH A FUCKING GREAT AND PRACTICAL ADVANTAGE?

Theres seem to be a funny glitch in the tag search where everytime you click 'Next' or 'Prev', the number of quotes increases

I think the problem is that every time you have a result set it has to index everything so that you can get a precise number, which is starting to make the site choke because you have to re-calc against millions of galleries and filter it down each time. I think it'd be good to have a box in the search results that's like "Jump to ID:". Maybe also have a percentile box where it will automatically calc against whatever the max ID is. Say if I wanted to jump to whatever gallery was closest to the midpoint of uploads I could put in say 50 into that box, and at this date that'd be the gallery closest to 1.2M. Also having it search by upload date (because some stuff is lost media so the actual production date may or may not be listed) would be useful. > Exclude-Only Searching
Oh?!
> Limited to 10 terms
Noooo.
I was hoping this update would finally allow us to search for vanilla galleries - essentially the absence of a bunch of tags - but I guess it's not possible yet.
Is increasing the term cap that taxing on the system? I would not mind donating to be able to increase the range to 20 or 30, if it was at least a paywalled feature.

I simply cannot express enough how I'm not too fond of this UI and search update, it is horrendous for me as a 6+ years user. Before that, I could at least easily navigate through my favourite galleries because I almost remember on which page are they in my heart. And for surfing, I could also use a dichotomy of page numbers to locate the galleries around a certain time period.
And I cannot view expunged galleries and normal ones as well. As a frequent viewer of the cosplay section, I must say that the experience has way deteriorated.
I just can't understand why these changes destroying user experience just take place without notice or a test, even if there is a good reason to keep the index of the database fit.

When I click on "[Disable Filters]", the button disappears and all galleries are displayed. ---> OK
But if I want to reactivate the filters, I have to click "Front Page" or go to "Settings" and click "Apply" and then go back to the galleries.
I think it would be more practical if by clicking "[Disable Filters]" the button became "[Enable Filters]".

If it's a matter of cost, then I'm willing to be a catgirl just to use the old search engine.

It seems that "unalived" content is no longer in favorites for me as well. The only time I've ever used that is to deal with expunge's so it was nice to have, but really not a huge issue if it's intended/can't be fixed. Also the lack of pages is really not that big a deal. Just keep scrolling til you're done...scrolling? This post has been edited by noones: Nov 2 2022, 18:11
