Has anyone figured out how to use GID to navigate through "pages" in favorites yet, I actually can't figure it out compared to regular search where it is actually comparatively simple.
&next=902744-1546846556
what is the 2nd number here.

Just admit it, this update was for all the fatties with sausage fingers who couldn’t tap on the number they wanted while using their iPhone.

Hello, I am also not happy with this update. It effectively kills any ability to look at older stuff from a tag that has thousands of results. I also don't see "just keep your tab open where you last were" as a solution, sorry, that's just stupid.
Basically I am not only able to watch new stuff or specific stuff I remember or that I cared enough to throw into favourites. Thanks for removing features I guess.

QUOTE(phasers @ Nov 2 2022, 18:05) Also waht is this GID everyone is apparently talking about? I dont really understand the description.
The gallery ID. Often to find next to the first slash. For example: https://e-hentai.org/g/2366035/7dd7ddd30e/The gallery id is: 2366035 This gallery also has previous versions. These have lower gallery ids since these are older.

QUOTE(Waitugreat @ Nov 2 2022, 16:01) If I have a gallery open, click on a tag and click on "Show Tagges Galleries" it shows me search site as normal. For example: CODE parody:"my hero academia$" But the system will add more and more quotes if you click on any of the buttons "<< First", "< Prev", ... Yeah, that's just a bug. I'll fix that. QUOTE(Hollow_Gaea @ Nov 2 2022, 16:05) Search gone weird.
When I try to search my friends releases by uploader, it works fine.
When I do the same with my account (excluding Gallery management): nothing is displayed. Looks like there is an issue with underscores in uploader usernames, I'll look into it.

Yeah, that's the worst part, it's now obnoxious as FUCK to look at old results. Why even host old galleries if you're gonna do stuff like this to try to ease server load?

So, whose threatening you with a lawsuit this time? How big is the gun they have to your head? It's the only thing I can think of to explain this stupidity...

QUOTE(Gorince @ Nov 2 2022, 12:55) If one has a specific gallery one is looking for, and is aware of the general timeframe it was uploaded, but doesn't recall the tags used, it would be much easier to jump to page XX and search around there than it would be to... I don't even know what you might do with the new search in that scenario, honestly.
This. I will have a problem with this for sure since my favorite now reach 900k+. All I remember till now is vague tag and blured memory that the one I want to find is uploaded/favorited before or after that another one or those timeframe.

I'm a phone user mostly. What is expected of me if I wanted to view entries intohe middle of my favorites? I currently have no way of knowing how many favorites I have, nor what entries exist in the middle.
I had 40+ pages of favorites. Whats the expected method for me to actually browse through my favorites?

Sorry for saying this but this update is bad and i never posted on forum before even tho my account has about 10 years but well, please rollback this, the amount of criticism in such a few time should be enough to understand that it was just a bad idea to remove the search by page function, thx.

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Nov 2 2022, 11:38) It's gone as the index has grown to a size where it's not computationally feasible to have it anymore.
Really? Because it was working perfectly fine the other day, I could type in a series and select Doujin and Manga categories and then just use the page numbering to look at certain eras. With this new system, I can look at the latest results, or the oldest results, but if I want to look for something in the middle in a popular tag, I now have to manually click through a single page at a time from either end, which could be possibly as many as 100 if not more pages, rather than jumping quickly through estimates to get where I want to sooner. Surely all these 50 repeated manual requests will put more load on the server as it wastes my goddamn time than me doing a couple of page loads to get to page 24 or 37?

ive been on this site for over 10 years, can't remember the last time i posted anything on the forums or what it was about. im just here to say that these changes are not that good from a user perspective. its not about not liking change, its just objectively worse UX than before.
i know these changes were done for under the hood reasons but most users don't really care about that. if you couldn't improve core site functions while maintaining UX then something went wrong.

please add some sort of way to search the gallery by date with the new GID search. many users (myself included) used the page numbering as a quick way to jump back a few months / years in a popular tag to see new results we hadnt seen yet. as has been suggested, some sort of drop down with a quick date selector to jump to generally around a specific timeframe would be all thats needed - i have never needed to comment on the forums before but this change has severely impacted / detrimented my use of the site in a negative enough way that i felt the need to post.

Losing the 200 results on a page kind of sucks, it was usually a perfect fit for tankoban, and made massive galleries a breeze.

'Continuous, fixed index' can be achieved with most simple way : page index, starts from 1 (oldest). Not much elegant, still quite large, but much smaller than GID and every step is +1.
Instead of it, new engine requires humans to remember 7-digit decimal in URL bar and compare with another 7-digit decimal from another URL. Moreover the difference is not under a dozen but quite large enough indistinguishably. Its a pain in the ***...
And honestly, hard to believe that how 7 digit decimal (barely over 16bit) is 'not computationally feasible'. If so, that is not a problem of index size but a problem of structure of index data. 'Access with raw from now on' is not an asylum...

Is there an option for a search query to still also contain expunged galleries or matches on low-power tags?
With the old engine, I always use both "expunged" and "low-power" checkboxes as a kind of fallback or catch-all in case I miss something. I would rather have more results to manually filter through by sight rather than having to run multiple searches figuring out the combination of query strings to see results with what I'm looking for.
For expunged galleries, for example, an expunged gallery could've been tagged as a compilation, but the comments might contain links to the individual galleries or the expunge log can show the better version.
For low-power tags, it's as simple as a new gallery with insufficient tagging ending up not showing up in the results.
In this case, I would rather err on having my results have a few more false positives I can filter out myself rather than having possibly missed something I was looking for or would've wanted to see just because tag status prevents it from being part of the results.
EDIT: Numbered search pagination was also my unofficial method of "searching by date". I also used page numbers to judge how many galleries have updated since I last checked and how far I am through a set of search results.

>If you explain why you need to go to page 50, I'll tell you how it's intended to work with the new search engine.
Because I used to jump around randomly in my nearly 10000 favorites, and having to go to the next page before replacing the last bit of the URL with "1600000000" is really awkward compared to simply pressing the "..." and typing in whatever page number I want.

EXACTLY THISThis update is convoluted and pointless for the user end, adding a whole bunch of extra steps and time. This update is ENTIRELY about the comfort of the devs, who are unable to comprehend a perspective outside of their own, and you guys should just stop pretending that it's anything but that. You see everyone hating this, people who have been users for years who barely post on the forums, if ever, come here to complain that the new search is retarded and unintuitive. NOBODY ASKED FOR THIS, NOBODY LIKES THIS, EVERYONE WANTS THE OLD SEARCH BACK, CUT IT OUT WITH THIS STUPID "WE'RE REDESIGNING YOUTUBE'S UI FOR NO REASON AT ALL, LOL" GARBAGE
