QUOTE(Tenboro @ Nov 14 2022, 10:11) I'm getting the same results with the old and new engine. Better with the new one in fact, since the old one doesn't handle the full URL but the new one does. Disable your filters if enabled. If they still don't show up, post the exact query you are using. (You're probably missing a comment: before the number.)
Ah just realised the issue is with the new version. There the "Search Gallery Name", "Search Gallery Tags" and "Search Gallery Description" checkboxes are gone, and I'm not getting any results with "16504957" no quotes, even when I check all 3 boxes for "Disable default filters for:" On the old version of the site, the "Search Gallery Name", "Search Gallery Tags" and "Search Gallery Description" checkboxes are still there and I'm able to get results with the same search term, but only with "Search Gallery Description" checked.

You can search title with title: and uploader comments with comment: you can also force terms to find tags only (any tag namespace) with tag:
comment:"16504957" works for me

QUOTE(aklfhl @ Nov 14 2022, 00:25) I tried searching with artist:smomo$ and artist:smomo$ -language:english$. Both give me the same number of results count, but the second one is approximate. It says "Found about xxx results". Maybe you have some default filters enabled?
Some default filters enabled? For example, where can it be turned on? I didn't change any settings, I didn't do it on purpose, maybe I changed it by accident? But my other searches are normal. If 100 results are displayed, it is indeed 100.

Can you please help me with my problem? Still don't know where the problem is (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/cry.gif) https://forums.e-hentai.org/index.php?s=&am...t&p=6207073

It can be wrong, especially if a particular query mostly has hits in a couple of categories and you have some categories disabled.

@Tenboro, I've found your reasoning and the response hard to argue with. Within the constraints available, you chose the best option you had, and are now iterating around the edges to improve it.
Hard choices, with no universally "good" option, picking a "least bad" solution no one likes, yeah, that sounds like leadership to me.
Like many others, I'm not a fan of the new experience. But I'm very grateful you addressed the challenge proactively, and also plan to offer a beta for the future.
Architecture at scale is HARD, and doing it on a shoestring is god damn miraculous.
Thank you.

Ah that worked. @Tenboro I was skimming through your opening post and was looking for what changed for searching by description. Only found the part on removal of the "Search Gallery Description" checkbox. Perhaps you can update your post to clarify "comment:" is actually referring to "description"? The wiki also didn't say anything about this https://ehwiki.org/wiki/Gallery_Searching

Don't want to sounds like these people who are against chances, and I got that you had to resort to that, But there's any way to import that jump/peek thingy?
It's really unfriendly to the average user I have hard time using it myself ;/

Some minor fixes:
- Fixed a bug in favorite searching where, depending on internal state and order of operation, title-only searches could break when multiple terms were used.
- The wording of "default filters" was changed to "custom filters" to make it clearer that it is referring to your personalized/customized tag, uploader and language filters, rather than some global default filter.

Would description: be better than comment:? comment: will make people think they can search all comments, which they can't.

Shitty lurker popping in to say thanks for all your hard work. I have trouble imagining even attempting to maintain this scale with the budget you run. It looks like a really difficult design decision and the UX isn't as good, but it works without many other concessions.

Well, at least one person agrees with you. "description" is too long and hard to type, but I did consider changing it to "info" (and relabeling "uploader comment" as "uploader information"). Ultimately decided against it, but it's not like it's locked-in if a lot of people feel the same.

Here's one more datapoint from me: I assumed comment: searches my favourite notes/comments, got really confused and thought it was broken until I found out it searches the uploader comment 😂
Now I know it's favnote: though, so I don't know, feels like a one-time thing — but I did spend 5~10 minutes trying to figure out why Probably not a bad idea to list/summarize the new keywords somewhere (atm I think one would have to dig through the big recent update post to find out about favnote:). Not sure if documenting it on the wiki alone will be enough. Adding a clickable ℹ️ button near the searchbar that shows a little popup would be nice (or just alt/title/on hover)
On a second thought, is there even a lot of these? gid, uploadid, uploader, comment, favnote, and weak?

I’m enjoying the new navigation. I frequently used to get to the bottom of a page, fatfinger the next button and go into the bottom gallery instead. Tablet browsing, heh. That happened more often than wanting to use the jump numbers.

I have similar problem. I try the keyword "artist:takunomi$", it says 153 results but only shows about 125.

Hey. Looks like I've reached the end. Here's my feedback: - Would you consider adding category search in Favorites? I mean people could filter their favorites with normal categories, like DOUJINSHI, COSPLAY, etc. Or we have to do it ourselves by using notes as a replacement? (For example, writing down notes like: #doujinshi, #cosplay for searching later.) I think it's a good way to get some random stuff out from a big fav and also a good way to narrow down the searching result when people want to find things out.
- Is there a way to filter out all favs with notes right now? I remembered with the old UI, if I check "Notes" only and leave search box blank, I could get them all. With the new engine, I've tried favnote: or favnote:* but got the whole favs list, which means those aren't effective searches.
Last, I would like to say that you've done a great job for the new engine. Sometimes, people just need more time to get used to new things.

Hello, while i dislike the new searching overall, i understand the reasoning and will just live with it. Sorry if someone already mentioned what follows - i tried to search for it but to no avail. The new "paging" works by showing the x galleries with IDs higher/lower than the highest/lowest (respectively) gallery of the current page - ok. As a result it has (at least it seems so) an amazing feature of not showing some galleries from the previous page again after clicking "next", if more galleries were added in the meantime, or skipping some galleries if some were removed. I love that. However, since the search results are ordered not by the ID but by the "published" date, it causes some inconsistent behavior. (disclaimer: i have the Paging Enlargement II hath perk, so i'm seeing 100 search results/page, in case anyone would want to compare their results with mine) Example: On the search results page https://e-hentai.org/?f_search=furry&ad...&next=51000 I can see near the top: - a gallery called "(C74) [Mikaduki Karasu] Hyouketsu-Yasai (Pokémon)" with ID 50793, published at "2008-09-01 07:43", - followed by a gallery "Pisipisi's Unsorted", published a couple of hours earlier, at "2008-09-01 02:05'. If we now modify the search to https://e-hentai.org/?f_search=furry&ad...&next=50793, we should expect "Pisipisi's Unsorted" to be the first gallery on the list, as it is the one that is right below the one with ID 50793, right? Well, it isn't. The first gallery there is "Assorted Furry", because despite having a lower ID of 38046, it was published at "2009-07-31 23:47" - almost a year later. Could the sorting be changed to by-ID, so it doesn't have these jumping galleries? Now TBH, since it's using the highest/lowest ID on the page instead of just first/last ID (that i think i've seen on some other website), then it seems that it doesn't cause any actual bugs like skipped search results, or possible loops, or whatever, but it's still unnecessarily confusing IMO.
