This is my first time posting on the forum and I just want to say this update is really great. It's what I have been wanting for years. Now, you don't have search results "slide" and change with every new gallery added. Bookmarking search results will now have things exactly where I need them, with no changes over time. You can also pinpoint galleries with their exact GIDs. As someone who like to archive things meticulously, this new GID search system works great and not hard to figure out for me at all.

That said, I do understand concerns from people who are used to the old page number system. Before, if your search result has 100 pages and you remember your gallery is at around page 50, you know around where to continue searching later. Now, you will have to guess the ID and you aren't sure whether to go backward or forward. I understand that this may feel unintuitive and arbitrary for a lot of people. However, I do think that the old system also has a lot of arbitrariness to it. Having your search result sliding by more than 50 pages, for example, won't really help much even if you remember what page you were at.

What I think you can do to get used to the new system is to change what you pay attention to, GIDs and dates instead of page numbers. Maybe try jumping by 1 year and see if you can identify whether you are in a time range before or after the gallery you want then start narrowing it down to months, days. It will take time to get used to but I believe people will realize how convenient, exact, and consistent the new system is.

At bare minimum, can we get it so it’ tell you what results you’re looking at out of the total? IE: tag returns 143 results. Click next, it’ll tell you you’re looking at 26-50 or such, if you have it so 25 results show at a time. And etc for different results per page. Want to be able to see how far in I am, compared to first page and last page.

I had around 10 very specific searches bookmarked that I was slowly combing threw. Each was 50+ pages long. Without pages numbers I can't see what I am doing... This is distressing, has nothing to do with 3rd party software, it is not user friendly to use.

Please re-add page numbers to searches.

So, in order to authoritatively search 1 genre we now have to:
1. Do regular search
2. Search expunged
3. Search low-power tags
4. Search expunged + low-power tags

...regardless of whether it's in Watched Tag Galleries or not. Is this correct?

If there's any 3rd party script that works around this, even if it repeatedly hammers the backend (i.e. by 3 additional queries and merge cells), please let me know.

Overall, these changes allow for massive performance improvements (three orders of magnitude in some common cases)

I wonder, is this a figure of speech or it really improves performance by a factor of 1000? It's quite a feat.

definitely, using cursor plus reading memory sequentially to return result, is in the range of responding in 10-100us, not to mention that while doing that process can be jump. which mean it isn't gonna wait for it to finish.

Your page range filter is too narrow.
The more I use this search the more - than + I got

- Excessively narrow page range filters min-max < 20) are no longer allowed.

Oh no no no no. I search galleries with page count more than 23 but less than 40. Please allow range of 15 pages (or less)

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Nov 2 2022, 19:09) *

max < 10, min/max > 0.8

there are a lot of magazine translated 4-8 pages. prevent this mean the best way to look for them. Also the copybooks/booklet.

"authoritatively" as in:

- expunged galleries, which are mostly dupes
- low power tags, which are usually incorrect
- a combination of the two, see above

For what it's worth, I think this is a great update. I love that OR functionality has been implemented, and integration of the community-suggested jump-seek selector is the icing on top. There'll be growing pains while people stop using the somewhat arbitrary system of page numbers prior, and replace that with a much-less-arbitrary GID, but those complaints were gonna happen no matter what.

Keep up the good work. I know that optimization and maintenance is thankless work, and I just wanted to let y'all know I appreciate it.

My biggest gripe at the moment is the "Your page range filter is too narrow." notification when searching for doujinshi between 15 and 30 pages.

I'll echo missing the "jump to page" option. I've favorited a lot of stuff over the years, and sometimes I would just pick a random number, jump to that page and look around to see if there was something old I'd forgotten about, but I can't easily do that anymore.

If true, it should still be affordable to break the search into 1-year increments and display a histogram of results-per-year to orient the user. That's like 20ish searches behind the scenes. Then the user could click on a year and get a monthly breakdown (12 searches). Unless constraining searches by date range is also impossible with this new data structure.

Ah, blog style. return. hmm . sound like good idea. that involve the date dimension. hmm.

I'm not familiar enough to help you with this.

I really wasn't happy not having a way to select specific pages at all, but I guess I can do with a "jump to" based on dates. Not sure if I overlooked it at first or if it's been added later, but if it's the latter, then I'm glad feedback wasn't totally ignored.

Been using the site for well over a decade and never posted anything before. First I'd just like to echo the numerous other people and say the removal of pagination causes a drastic decrease in usability. I can somewhat understand the reasoning behind it, but it's pretty bad from a usability point of view.

Something that I would personally find helpful is to be able to at least add some way to simulate the effect of hitting next multiple times, say 5 or 10, without having to actually do that. I can't imagine that would be particularly difficult computationally and would definately help.

Also I would just like to say that if your database can't support counting teh number of results of a search query in a resonable amount of time then there is something seriously wrong with the way you are storing data.

"Mostly", "usually", and lots of subjective vomit on your part that can be entirely rephrased as: "yes".

Thanks for confirming! I hope there is a custom script that can un-fuck the UX by doing exactly that.

- Selecting "Search Low-Power Tags" will now only search low-power tags.

- The "Search Downvoted Tags" option was removed.

- Selecting "Search Expunged Galleries" will now only search expunged galleries in normal searches.

Can someone please explain why these changes were necessary? They seem completely pointless and only make the user experience worse in my opinion. I'd greatly prefer them to simply be included in the full listing.
Some tags I favor practically require including low-power and downvoted tag results to find everything due to their generally limited appearances.

Can you show me the syntax you have used? This ain't supposed to happen.

f:big_areolae, f:anal_intercourse, f:dark_skin, f:blowjob, f:bbw, f:milf, f:futanari

I've just tried this combination on the mirror and I get an red message saying that it's ignoring the last two tags.

These are actually an valid combination of tags, but it says thatnit's ignoring the condom and another tag or two, and that I should use quotes around one of them.

A:amazon, english, f:sweating, f:blowjob f:large_breasts, f:ahegao, f:hairy, m:condom

And if I run too precise of an search, I also get nothing.
