I feel like this composer created an entire genre of music that is exclusively owned by him. He is very old and when he dies there will be no more music of this type. When I saw this anime, I was shocked that he was still alive. This has a more modern sound quality compared to his older works. I tried to find a clean video of this song but this anime was never popular enough over here.

He did the soundtrack for Iczer-1. At first, they were going to use a 'junk' soundtrack, i.e. random pieces they had in the bank. Then Hirano Toshihiro was visiting Youmex on business and they said, "We can make a soundtrack for you." Hirano wanted it to sound like Michiaki Watanabe's music, since he'd grown up watching all these tokusatsu series that he'd scored and was a huge fan of his... and it turned out that the man himself was available, so he was thrilled to get to work with his idol, on his directorial debut.

Watanabe also scored the Dangaioh OAVs, but he was busy when they were making Iczer-3 so they had to get somebody else.

A group of 4 young people with various esper abilities are told that they are the new weapon created by the evil professor. In reality, they were all kidnapped and their memories erased.

It sounds like Watanabe-sensei was really into recycling. I remember some Japanese fans complaining about how the Iczer-1 tracks were rearrangements of his older tracks, and how if it was supposed to be a callback it should be exactly identical, and he was saying he was glad to have people listening so closely to his music... sounds like he also kept it in mind and sometimes just did that.

"PSYCHIC SWORD!" Probably had 'SO-DO' above the Zan kanji in furigana and somebody missed it. One of the translations was notorious for mishearing Psychic Wave as Side-Kick Wave and putting that in the script.

These are the best songs I ever saw in my whole life! I'm not sure how they were made, but it sounds like some of them are the original singer, run through a voice changer, and then auto-tune is applied which makes the shouting parts sound really weird. GOOouou GOOoououou!!
