What epub-to-image conversion software do you guys recommend?
I've tried AVS, Filestar, and BitRecover.
AVS and Filestar fucks up the image ratio.
So far, BitRecover has produced the best result, but it crops the bottom of the image ever so slightly into its own page, as shown below.
UPDATE: TIL you can just change epub to zip then extract the images.

You shouldn't even need to rename it to .zip and just extract it with 7z, since .epub files are essentially just ZIP archives. Just change the file association if it doesn't use 7z by default.

So you just want to copy the image files out, not convert the entire book text into a series of images?

I just didn't realize epub works like a zip file and that I don't need a special software to extract or convert the images.

Aside from WinRAR, are there any other alternative software that has a function to repair corrupted RAR archives and in addition is free (not paid)?

Probably not, but you could try libarchive's bsdtar and 7-zip.

I don't think the unrar library code supports repair unfortunately.

If you are asking because you are thinking of using RAR archives for backing up data, rather than because you have a corrupted RAR file, then I'll recommend trying the [en.wikipedia.org] Parchive format with 7-zip or similar archive files instead.

In some situations, where the RAR is still available for download, but my personal copy is corrupt and I don't want to re-download the whole thing, I have been able to guess approximately how much of the file is intact prior to the broken part by extracting the good parts and seeing how much of the file size is accounted for by them, and then downloaded a partial copy of the file using 'curl -r [starting byte number]-' followed by "gluing" the good part of the old RAR file to the redownloaded part of the new file.

I try to not keep RAR files around on my system, though. I kind of hate them (out of principle).

I have an issue that I haven't run into before. When viewing files they are appearing default at 1280 x 1800, with the original still being available for download. Up until yesterday I could view most files at their original size and I have Source Nexus.

If that's still happening I'd suggest bringing it to the Site Discussion and Help Desk forum.

This may not be feasible/possible, but has anyone ever tried using their own VPS as an open incoming port for torrents (which gets forwarded over VPN to a local machine) and then using a different VPN to reply to the request?

Based on what I know about TCP/IP, I am guessing this would not work due to a mismatch between the expected and actual responding IP,, but it'd be great if I could continue using someone else's VPN for my torrenting/seeding and just use my personal VPS to act as a relay for incoming connections.

Guessing that's just not going to happen. But it'd be nice if there is some way to do it.

besides what this would mean on a TCP/IP level since I dont know what would happen either. wouldnt this make all connections appear to be coming from your relay to the torrent/seed box? which I recall not being a worked out case for most torrent clients to see all those connections from one ip, due to some exploit protection.
already ran into it once when I tried to do it before with a simple ssh tunnel at least, though that was a good while ago.

I was looking at the 2 torrents for this cosplay gallery:

Tokar - Hatsune
https://e-hentai.org/g/2575024/da077e4838/

The gallery's files are only ~480MB but for some reason the torrent .rar archive is ~504.4 MB (with only 2 tiny extra files) while the torrent .zip archive is only ~478.7MB.

I'm curious about why putting the jpgs into a .rar actually significantly increases the total file size and if there's any reason to use .rar over .zip.

WinRAR is shit, outdated in some areas, not free (both as in free beer and freedom).
Theoretically not compatible with any OS outside of Windows, if it wasn't for people that reverse engineered the decompression code, and ported tools to decompress .rar files to Linux, MacOS and i assume other *nix's. Although they provide the unpacker source code, apparently, it was not very helpful. On windows just use 7zip.

So no, there is no reason to use .rar over .zip.

Why its significantly higher? I don't know, must be the compression method they used. Using
CODE
7z l -slt archive.rar | grep Method
we can determine the method used to compress each file. Its a RAR5 archive, and it spews out only m3:24 and m0:24 for 'Method', apparently that means the default compression method and "m3" indicates compression level 3, i assume it heuristically decides what the best level of compression is to use. 24 is the dictionary size, 16MB in this case. After that I still don't know why its significantly higher in file size than the extracted archive. Basically: its BAD.

Anyway: Stick to 7zip instead of WinRAR, its free software, generally more up2date with more features and supported algorithms, faster and more universally compatible. Preferably compress files using the .zip format, as for the compression method, "Copy" for fastest compression and decompression, but no file size compression at all. Zstd (Z standard) is generally be the best method otherwise, both in terms of speed and size, but its variable. Whatever the default is, is probably the safest method that will be the most compatible for basically everyone.

Not entirely true.
[www.rarlab.com] There is source-available unrar code on the site (buried). License forbids using it to reverse engineer the compression algorithm(s). Until recently, this was the only way to unpack rar, and was and is utilized by p7zip for rar support to this day. It's why a 'non-free' variant of p7zip exists in Debian. More recently libarchive/bsd tar is seemingly properly reverse engineered. But most programs that don't use libarchive use the official unrar sources.

Agreed. Also, unrar does have some corruption detection/correction capabilities, which for 7-zip you may need something like par2 for.

IMO uncompressed tar is more unoversal since most distros don't come with 7-zip bundled but 7zip can handle tar. But I'm being pedantic.

Edit - actually yeah there was a reverse engineered unrar variant already, too. But that didn't support RAR5.

Good luck with that. Having such an application on public may have them rework their DRM even more.

I can help each one privately with beating these protections and getting 100% virgin files, for most known image/video (a bit of exe too) protections on all portals - dlst, dmmb, krm, PB, cpd etc. Details in these threads:
https://forums.e-hentai.org/index.php?showtopic=69674
https://forums.e-hentai.org/index.php?showtopic=29160

tl;dr: the major downside in my case is that user must share the login information with me, for accessing his protected file.

See this thread, and also the ones linked in the above quote. Message genl.
https://forums.e-hentai.org/index.php?s=&am...t&p=1245425
Though I notice they haven't been on in a couple months. Has something happened I'm not aware of?

I cant see thumbnails on e-hentai. Yes, Ive tried everything from the general tech support page. Cleared DNS cache, about:config, it’s not a firewall issue, ive disabled all my adblockers, I have whitelisted e-hentai. E-hentai works fine. I can only see the outline of where the image is supposed to be. I can only see images when I click on them in individual galleries. Gallery overview also doesn't help. I am running windows 10. This problem occured on brave and firefox. Firefox is newly installed because I fucked up my cookies on brave. Maybe cnrtl+shift+j might help, but I do not know what to do with the information. I am currently running firefox. Please help, I need my pron
