https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH1y8-HJCM0&t=46 / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCMEO8-XSYM&t=54 Easy identification for me, same key and so same this part but it's short then gets different. 2019 vs 1998 release. Terrible show to watch makes me suffer. Wonder if it's for girls or something. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN_m24pcJjI Best song from that terrible anime. Guitar is kind of like that guitar/drum rhythm I was talking about some pages earlier. Whee new Sailor Star Song is out! Actually now I found out that there have been a bunch of decent versions of this song over the last decade that I didn't pay any attention. But why do they keep messing with the melody at a few parts of the song? Spot A: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5S34ldKXyE&t=34 versus original https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zk260b4pg8s&t=34 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-hEDDj75iw&t=34Spot B: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5S34ldKXyE&t=22 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zk260b4pg8s&t=22 and maybe all versions versus mutant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeYcgAr2_9k&t=21Maybe the original singer was so out of tune that they can't even tell what some notes were supposed to be (I still think her voice is awesome anyway). Upon further research, all the instrumental bgm versions of Sailor Star Song used in the original TV series have the altered melody in Spot A that the new song uses, while the original melody was reserved for the vocal opening as well as one instrumental bgm on the old CDs that was not used in the show. I don't know why but Sailor Star Song is almost surely in my Top 5 anime songs of all time, quite possibly my number one. I don't even like or watch Sailor Moon. No IV V iii vi in the whole song but it feels quite cartoonish, so what kind of song does it resemble? Like 80's american cartoon music or something? Hmm I hear some canon progressions maybe, a lot of my favorite anime songs have that, but usually they are like more relaxed songs. Wait, is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeYcgAr2_9k&t=173 a (weird) IV V iii vi after all?

No 4536 but 456, which kinda is the reduced version of 4536. Some musician youtuber believes 456 is the real basic of jpop chord progressions. QUOTE(BlueWaterSplash @ Aug 15 2023, 18:25) that's a very distinctive artstyle for the album cover, I would recognize it any day [ vndb.org] https://vndb.org/s415no, that's very far away from being anything close to 4536. The first 3 chords are some kind of descending chromatic progression then back to tonic (Am Abaug Gm C). It feels quite nice to play on piano since all the notes are close together.

QUOTE(Ass Spanker) No 4536 but 456, which kinda is the reduced version of 4536. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5S34ldKXyE&t=82 Is this the IV V vi? If it is, what's the fourth chord afterward? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5S34ldKXyE&t=95 Is this ii V I? I've always thought it was one of the weirdest anime openings I'd ever heard, and listening to the latest version of Moonlight Densetsu I noticed for the first time that it sounds like an enka. Aside from the modern instrumentation, it's like old Japanese samurai music or something, which you'll generally never hear in anime unless they are making a parody like this. Internet says enka uses only 5 notes, and when I [ en.wikipedia.org] play this it does sound enkish to me. Do those two examples follow enka rules in the melody? I assume some chords may break out. I know jack shit about enka so I can't answer the later questions. For the first, it's not 456. If you notice, the 2nd chord has a bit of tension (emo) because it's chromatic. It's ii III (chromatic) vi v (chromatic). This progression has a name and is somewhat common in Jpop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3uqqoBMh34. Super emo progression, this song is the first to come to mind when I think about this progression: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adLErmEddS8For the 2nd, yes it's your standard 251 cadence. QUOTE(BlueWaterSplash @ Aug 29 2023, 03:32) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZX9xmcCH1T0&t=43 / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw5o2pSrVbQ&t=2 Not sure if chords are same but your clip briefly reminds me of this song, which was all over in the anime medley. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btth9Fk6KVg&t=38 I don't know if this also has similar chords, but it was always right next to the above song in the anime medley, some with just a 1 second clip. It's called the bird blues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4F278t62qcQUOTE(BlueWaterSplash @ Aug 29 2023, 03:32) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLYVqdekt6s&t=23 / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHzZA7HWYKg&t=135 I think the chords are exactly the same. I didn't fetch this song based on the IV V V#dim vi but what comes after. Although I'm not sure what that is? 45 #5 6 yes. After that is ii iii IV. And maybe add a V. QUOTE(BlueWaterSplash @ Aug 29 2023, 03:32) I can't find where the 456 are in Sailor Star Song. Is it here or here? (If it is in either of those spots, what are all the chords around there?) dunno either, maybe i misremember

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBh72acFfVs&t=46 / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX4yy7wdrTQ&t=53 Aoi Eir is back again. At least I don't think this one was in the medley. Same key I think (I messed up last time, although I did suspect that one and had tried to check back and forth). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LRnr-PQyqY&t=91 / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22IWK81Iqck&t=66 Doesn't seem exactly the same but I think a good enough find considering it's 2021 anime versus 1987 europop. I found the correct song in my memory instantly...thanks to the two songs having the same name! Hmm, now that I listen to this "Chinese" song more carefully, I hear a lot of extreme similarities in both instrumentation and melody to Oh My Goddess! OAV bgm (1993~1994). Maybe I will find the similar parts later. Wait, I should try to search and listen to more songs by that guy on youtube. I'd only heard this one song before, by random chance. I'm listening to more songs now, most are different but a couple others seem similar to OMG bgm. It's always been a mystery to me where the OMG bgm came from, because trying to check its composer leads to a dead end. Now that I check on vgmdb, the only thing he did is Oh My Goddess, including all bgm and opening/ending...and a couple Ranma christmas songs...which I had coincidentally remarked in your contest sounded similar. He's done nothing else, at least as a "composer" although he seems to be a big anime producer.
