QUOTE(Ass Spanker @ dang was this a month ago already?) *
https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=35&v=AC952bwRS0E / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AC952bwRS0E&t=35s : was listening to the first song and thought it's in the medley but it's definitely not when I looked it up. Turned out to be a different song but sound similar, almost exactly the same.

Mistake link? I get the same clip on both. Some of these drawings make me want to watch but I usually have a hard time sitting through these 4-panel type of shows. I think the drawings I liked (0:48) weren't how the show looks anyway.

Since I recognized a bunch of the songs in your clipped area on the medley, I decided to watch the whole thing despite the dangers of getting medley memory brain virus. I haven't watched enough animes for the last year or two, since I returned to playing a bit of video games again.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3y9sbfgTKA Lately I've been listening to this old song. Thought I heard it before but it wasn't on my hard drive. Don't think I saw (this far into) the show either. Parts of this song probably remind me of other songs, maybe you can identify something.

I'm not a very good creator of things. On the very rare occasions I've tried to make something, like painting an anime figure, or drawing a 2-years vtuber swimsuit, I choose a few songs or soundtracks to listen to on infinite repeat so I don't get frustrated with the process.

Oh wrong url, here's the right one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEJAbKs5ygc&t=642s. Kinda funny how both songs came from bang dream, maybe same composer.

A bit different topic. I uploaded a couple videos to Youtube for the first time ever (I'm completely reclusive and never had the slightest desire to stream anything, host any webpage, use Twitter, etc).

As just a technical test (I had absolutely no idea how OBS or any of these softwares work) I tried to play Toradora Orange from another Youtube video (same links we use here) to see if I could re-stream it, and it worked. (It's in lossless on my hard drive, but since my hard drive is overall lacking in completeness, I used Youtube source).

The odd thing is that Youtube immediately auto-detected and caught the karaoke-version Orange, then said I'm allowed to use it freely by the owner.

I remember that Orange was a really hard song to find on Youtube when you had your first anime chords contest some years ago, and I could only find the karaoke version. So I'm not sure if the authors decided to grant permission afterwards, or it was always that way. There are lots of Oranges on Youtube now, including with vocals, that aren't new videos. (Perhaps they were taken down and put back with original upload dates).

(Stuff I uploaded is fully public but should not be searchable, if I did it right. Don't want people to see any of my retarded crap. I'm not gonna title anything I upload with the actual song or anime names).

Another season, more songs that sound similar

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=8&v=J-lAV3RWN4g / https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=69&v=5jJU-pLjdzc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=45&v=i_E6t628wPw / https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=33&v=C3EjK1qCZWU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=74&v=9TBVQm3d4jI / https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=55&v=dlFA0Zq1k2A : in general SHY OP has a lot of common anipop writing tricks. the entire song even sounds like it's made of medley materials, you can literally pick any random 2 bars and they are gonna sound like they're from a medley.

[piapro.jp] https://piapro.jp/t/cFxV / https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=22&v=2TTuH9BPwjI : Chorus melody. The part where it sounds the same for UNDEAD starts at 1:01, pay attention to the synths. I actually laughed while working when I first listened to the instrumental version of the Yoasobi song.

I haven't been watching as much anime lately (busy plus less free channel access, although I can still get anime if I really want to, of course) so probably won't find as many similar songs.

QUOTE(BlueWaterSplash @ Jun 10 2024, 01:33) *
Lately I've been listening to this old song (Love Somebody).

I'm surprised no one got the answer to the One Word Song Contest. You must have known the answer because this guy's face was in the side links of your song. He was also in the side links of Batman, but the side links aren't the same for everyone, so it might have been polluted by my video history and maybe other people couldn't see him.

I'm checking out this YouTube Japanese MIDI page now. I like some of these better than the original songs because the audio quality can be better, plus I generally prefer instrumental and computerized music to vocals (only if well made and synthesized).

Love Somebody (MIDI just got released and is probably how I discovered this person's page, seems correctly scored, not sure why BPM is slower than real song)

Was wondering what chords and notes were used in this song for a long time, now I kind of know (although I have a hard time to read and understand). For some reason I thought this wasn't a 4536 song at first, then later I thought it was 4536 spam, then I became confused. Seems the intro/chorus is I V V#dim vi (with melody 6 7 1 on the vi chord). Verse is IV (IV) iii vi without sevenths and IV V iii vi with sevenths. Each chorus keys up by one whole tone (!) then goes back down for intro/chorus. Comparing with original song, I feel like the person who made this MIDI changed some chords in the keyed up choruses.

Let's Groove (Got uploaded few days ago, sounds correct and good to me, I guess Japanese people know this song)

Oh My Goddess ending (Uploaded just a month ago, doesn't sound great but useful to check notes)

Besides the intermission section found before, seems pre-chorus sections might also qualify as IV V iii vi. 90's animes generally most likely to use 4536 in pre-chorus and intermission. Still have hard time differentiating from ii V iii vi sometimes.

Oh My Goddess opening (Didn't listen yet, for my review later)

Never bothered checking this for the 4536 contest. Instinct told me this didn't have, and the other one did (which it did, but I was more incompetent and submitted wrong part back then).

Sailor Star Song (Doesn't sound great but seems scored correctly)

Despite being in C Major this song uses a ton of black keys sometimes, even in the melody. Is this feature associated with the Two of Us progression? Or does this song have stealth key shifts? I guess this is not a normal song like I used to think it was. The part I thought was most similar to 4536 turns out to be IV III vi v (I) or something...

it does sound like one of the medley songs but that's usually the case with 4536 spams. the medley wiki is down right now so i can't check as well.

just the 2 of us does have chromatic notes, but in general, there's no rule that forbids you from using chromatic notes for your chords or melody at all. they are useful to create some temporary tension so that you can resolve them later.

As expected, Oh My Goddess opening didn't have 4536, however it did have IV (IV) iii vi which I've noticed also seems to be pretty prevalent, especially in 90's anime. The following ii ii V V part reminds me of this song so I tried to check why. I guess it makes sense because I think the entire second song is just I I I I ii ii V V looped over and over (until the lava kills everyone) and just one semitone different key.

Oh My Goddess opening also seems to key down by one whole tone every chorus, so it's another song that has Love Somebody syndrome. I wonder how rare key changes specifically for choruses are in general? (The last time I really listened to this song was before your 4536 contest, therefore I didn't understand as well what chords and keys were, so I would not have been able to properly detect, except maybe on a subconscious level).

Dan Dan Kokoro (Dragon Ball GT) For some reason this is one of the more popular VTuber songs (link is safe). Thought I noticed a key shift in the chorus of this song too, but I was having trouble identifying the interval, then I realized it simply changes from C minor to C major key at every chorus. I think. I didn't really check the midi beforehand (I can read them better now but still takes me too long, so I don't always bother). Rather, I used my pseudo-method to tell the difference between minor and major key I practiced a while back (minor key songs generally sound like they could be fighting game music to me).

Lazy post since I'm busy again due to being forced to play isekai every 6 months and get swamped if I need to train for any other game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F61eDAXtmnw&t=58 Sounds totally different but I hear part of Snow Halation's chorus in this, too. Overall song sounds totally different. Wonder if in exact same key (haven't checked).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llzbZ22-Nog&t=75 Just found this song, it's probably the first vocaloid song that I've heard that I actually like (I haven't heard many). I think it popped up in the side links for that worst singing ever that I posted in the other thread. I think the linked part is exactly the same as some other song in the medley, perhaps something that sounded familiar to me that I ended up never having heard before when the answers came out (yet another unidentified song may share this melody). Reminds me of eternal eternity though probably doesn't sound the same anywhere when I checked.

I forget what I said when I originally heard this girl sing, back when I first saw these creatures. Maybe I said she was bad but had potential because I liked her voice? Well she's great now, to me anyway.

These two examples have the same kind of girl voice I think, and it's one of my favorite types. I don't care how bad their technique is or how out of tune they are, as long as it's the type I like. Amusingly, the guys in both videos seem to be using a similar singing style too (except one of them is the worst I ever heard).

The two high notes in this song are E5 and B5. I instinctively knew without checking that the E5 was the same as the high note in Take On Me since it was equally the same minor difficulty for me to make it. I thought the B5 was an E6 though without checking, and I couldn't make an E6 come out from myself yet. I can make B5 but since I'm not a girl it's not easy for me. Sounds okay but I have to be a bit loud. All the girls singing this song make that B5 sound effortless. I guess that is the power of girls. Or are they turning down the volume for that note in post-production?

If you saw any parts of the retarded test videos of myself, maybe you heard my real voice now. That's my deep guy voice though. For singing high I am maybe like mutated stuffed animal Hatsune Miku voice. Then E5 B5 octave is higher so probably guys and girls sound same by then. I haven't been able to figure out how to make any of the upper range singing voices that other guys make for the majority of shows.

These kind of remind me of each other. Wait, maybe this was another pairing that I had known about from decades ago but had forgotten until now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zl3zYYya3Vk / some My Hero Academia song

This is actually the song I heard a few days ago that made me go get the first song above, so it might be similar in some other parts. And the chorus of this song is similar or identical to some My Hero Academia bgm (?) song since it's the same composer. I don't particularly like that show I don't want to search too hard for it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OW9uiR7PDTM / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eH_ZMA37TpQ&t=9

Accidental find from the most terrible anime songs thread. I didn't realize it until after I made that topic and was finding my links, that my #1 and #2 worst songs might sound similar to each other. That might have subconsciously been what caused me to hate song #2 when I first heard it recently and create that dang thread, since I've always hated song #1 a lot.

I remember there were some Gundam Seed Destiny songs in the anime medley answers. I had never seen Destiny at the time, so I ignored those answers as they were things I could not have gotten. Now I'm wondering if they were placed next to the first song (which was very common in the anime medley, and I found all of them: no one probably suspected the true reason I could recognize them so easily, graahhh!)

If these two songs are indeed similar I need someone else to analyze them for me. I can't check them because when I listen to them I go aaraagaaa and roll around on the ground.

1564, a.k.a. the pop punk progression, a.k.a. the most used progression of all time bar none. If you think 4536 is overused in JPop, wait until you see how many songs in the world use 1564, and without any creativity even, just slamming the entire thing over and over.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAc8LWXYgAs / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URQS4SO0AOk These two sound generally different but somehow strongly remind me of each other. If the songs switched which anime they were in, I don't think I would notice. I think they might both do the key up during chorus thing?

I forget where I posted the first song here previously, but it's the song where the band name and song name are backwards. It sounds quite different from most anime music so I didn't expect I would ever find anything resembling it. Yet it didn't take long, and hearing the second song just a few days ago is what made me go get the first song.

I like the first song better. Second show has a swimsuit girl. I guess anime shows called Green Box, Red Box, Black Box, and Yellow Box should come out later.

QUOTE(BlueWaterSplash @ Nov 30 2024, 19:06) *

Good fucking song. This was the top pick for my seasonal anime song ranking. The composition with weird chords and progressions makes it sound very different from conventional modern anime music. The Eve song in comparison is full of modern pop cliche. 2 songs sound almost nothing similar. I can hear a few common notes in some phrases here and there but still not enough to trigger my sensor.

This one identical bar in English is funny. Same note too; I suspected it before I went to check the second song. Yet I failed to realize the note interval was an octave. I might be able to identify D4 from now on without a keyboard (one of the techniques for that perfect pitch training was to remember a song for each note). Songs probably have no similarity overall except for possibly being in the same key.

I guess I should have been able to always identify a D anyway since it is one of the strings on a violin, except that I forgot how to play violin and don't even know what the strings are anymore.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdzJYUOJnKw&t=115 / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T5eEY6NnBk&t=13

This is the most common bgm from that show; I laugh at the funny froggy sound. Don't know what you call it. Probably no one uses it anymore. Was trying to think of other songs with frogs, so far I only came up with one and not sure it's the same frog.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs85gCoCaBA&t=21 / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqjb332ufk8&t=8 / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=je-F8Da8oe4

Not sure if these chords are same but I get the same feeling from them despite voicings maybe being different.

Okay I checked notes on computer keyboard. Still unsure of chords but Shield Hero and Chiki Bam Bam seem to be in same key and Miraculous Ladybug is only one semitone higher, and 3rd and 4th notes of chords seem similar or the same in all of them. Except some interval is off in Ladybug, so it might be that Ladybug is in minor key and Shield Hero and Chiki Bam are in major key, or something (using my fighting game voodoo criteria to decide if minor key).

I tried to check more. Ladybug seems to be in A♭ minor and Shield Hero maybe in B minor (use D major notation). Chiki Bam in G major and 4th chord is something different than I thought, probably a D. It's all wack. They still kind of sound similar to me though, like almost compatible.

I guess Shield Hero is iv I IV V, that 80's whatever common pop thing (that was my initial guess, too). It's sleepy time so I can try to guess the others later.
