Just upload ANOTHER gallery with the updated content and expunge the old one.

"Please confirm that you wish to disown this gallery. You will no longer be publicly listed as the uploader unless the gallery was published in the last week, and you will not be able to make further changes to it."

If you need to make a valid update, make a new gallery and replace the old one.
If you don't need to update it, let it be. You'll still get the GP from it anyway.

Yes, it is. MAYBE if you talk to tenboro you can regain ownership of it, but I highly doubt this will happen.

But what is the problem? You won't lose anything if you upload another gallery and expunge the old one. The people from the last one will see the new one, rerate it, vote for the tags, you will get the GP from it...
