I had a thought today that the shittification of anime and death of cyberpunk is a function of the death of the OVA... and the rise of anime as an opiate of the masses. Something just to distract people from their depressing lives with no girlfriend and a stressful job (or hikikomori that are just shut-ins and depressed in their rooms...) instead of making an artistic expression for an educated and literate audience.

In the 80's, OVA's were something that were enjoyed mostly by people in well-off families (those that had VCR's or those that would rent them), with a high level of education; the rise of cable killed that exclusivity, and as with anything that is appealing to mass audiences it was a race to the bottom (or lowest common denominator). I doubt the tumbling of the Japanese economy did anything to reverse that race to the bottom.

That might not be the whole story, but I think it's at least part of the story.

I do think Trump spurred on the events at the capitol, but I don't for a minute think he actually thought he had a chance to stay in power. He just wanted to save face as "a winner."

I highly doubt he had intent to actually stay in power, although I'm sure he would if the opportunity presented itself. He just didn't want to look weak to his supporters; he had to 'stay in character.'

I doubt his goldfish brain was thinking seriously about future consequences.

So yeah, a lot of political grandstanding and trying to make trump out to be much worse than he is (he's bad, but mostly just in that he's irresponsible and a narcissist).

They made a strong case that he knew he lost the election. Not that I ever really doubted he knew.

So: irresponsible, but I don't know if I'd say he had true malicious intent. It was PR for him, and a chance to be in the center of attention.

A piece of shit, sure. But not so evil as I think the dems are trying to make him out to be. Just immature.

In my defense, here's the scenario.

• All the music stations on the radio where I live are awful garbage
• This car's stereo system only has one auxilliary input method: a 30-pin ipod connector
• My ipod has no battery life left
• The car's connector only provides charging via firewire, and this ipod is new enough to not support anything but USB charging
• I would fly into a rage on the road if I didn't have something to keep me from fixating on all the retarded drivers around me
• This is the first time I have listened to NPR news in a month or three.

Yeah; it's from 2008 or so and runs rockbox (a third party firmware). I can play game boy color games on it, and I can copy music files to it over USB without having to use itunes or any other weird software. I just copy the files into whatever folder I want on the ipod's storage.

I have no idea what that image is supposed to imply.

Also it supports mp3 and flac files this way.
