Just finished writing an essay criticizing Japanese portrayals of women (anime, idols, etc).
Good thing they don't know I'm on the e-hentai toplists. That'd kind of make me sound hypocritical. Unless maybe if I argued that this way I'm not supporting human trafficking of real people. I don't know if that argument would fly.

Anime and manga have far more female main characters whilst the West relies on Mary Sue cookie cutter production lines that are a parody of women at best.

Probably not being serious, I'm sure, but I struggle to think of female protagonists from the last decade or two that weren't cookie cutter parodies of women in japanese animation.

Looking at American series, there is Pixar and Disney with a movie every other year, then for series the peak seemed to be around 1998-2005, looking that the rating lists with shows like Kim Possible, Daria, Proud family, The wild Thornberrys and apparently Totally Spies.
I didn't think Proud family was that good, but it was popular apparently.
