I think The Goonies was peak 80's and Hook was peak 90's.

Now we are living in the deculture ccp-virus + biden dark ages.

Its scary that there haven't been many new good comedians since the 90s. There are a few good B tier comedians from the 00s.

Comedy is going to die off at this rate.

the anime industry is so fucked and bereft of talent or good ideas there will never be anything close to Iria ever again.

This is what happens when the corporate entity finds something it can monetise to normies.

It's especially true with video games.

It reminds me of an old vg cats comic.

Fuck. It feels like I only just watched it yesterday... in Dec 2020.

Where the fuck did the past year go?

Looks like its on next week.

The show doesn't feel the same without the ads. Don't think I've ever watched the whole movie in one go.

Edit: Oh I also need to watch Die Hard 1 & 2 (Maybe 3 directors cut) the best Christmas movies.

maybe that Fatman movie. is Lethal Weapon a Christmas movie?

I miss the 90s when they had anime booba and gratuitous violence on TV.

Tekkaman which is full of violence and nudity was aired as a kids show.

Even if Japan becomes an economic powerhouse again like they were in the 80s, the anime industry is so fucked and bereft of talent or good ideas there will never be anything close to Iria ever again.
Yep.
I blame the rise of moeshit as much as anything else.

Manga still has some gems, though. Gintama (I've only read the manga) was fantastic despite not being a product of the 80's/90s.
This might be a more controversial one, but I also liked the more recent "Jitsu wa watashi wa" (2013-2017) manga a lot. Despite being harem manga. Had that same energy where things just accelerate into surreal craziness as Gintama and Dr. Slump had.

Still, I think that the last manga I really, really, really loved apart from Gintama (and the last non-comedy one) was Chobits (2000-2002).

Miyazaki movies have stayed pretty good, at least. But it's a bit of a shame Akiyuki Nosaka didn't get to do more Ghibli movies, too… Grave of the Fireflies hurt me a lot, but it was very moving and human.

I miss the animation style of 90's giant anime booba.

Mostly unrelated, Miyazaki drives a cool car. And one that is very hard to find in the US.

Lel Pelosi is competing with Joe Biden for most brain damaged award. She is trying to explain why they increased funding to the pentagon reaching record levels even though they don't have the funding and her brain melted.

Money printers go BRRRRR. Inflation rate hits 6.8% in the US, 40 year record.

If inflation rises then does cryptocurrency gain value or just correlate to a slow economic crash?

Capital flight, can drastically increase the value of crypto.

Economic down turn tends to lower the value of crypto.

Hard to exactly say, but crypto acts as an alternate store of value or method of transactions when the times are stable.

Some people hoard crypto and do well and others lose a fortune.

I dumped all portfolio into real estate and booze. They have both risen in value 4.5% in six months.

The stock market is doing well but is ignoring fundamentals. A lot of billionaires are diversifying away from stocks.

Modern Korean culture, k-pop, k-dramas, especially the fashion is all a modernized take on 1980s/1990s everything. Big round glasses, varsity jackets, baggy waist high pants and sneakers, kerchiefs, isn't it obvious?

It is a top down creation designed to keep their media and pop culture frozen in time to avoid, or delay, the downward spiral that has gripped everywhere west of Poland.

Evangelion makes a lot more sense when you realize that Hideaki Anno really wanted to make a UFO / Space 1999 anime adaption.

UFO was a about a secret organisation that was set up by the UN but was actually run by a shadow organisation to stop the aliens from invading the earth. The main character is basically Gendo. The UFOs are revealed to be higher order energy or spiritual lifeforms or maybe angels. They also had a cool secret underground base and a moon base. There was moon base in Evangelion as well. They also had blue haired clones and super computers that helped them coordinate. They used pattern green instead of pattern blue to identify the invaders though...

Space 1999 was the sequel where they are trying to study the UFOs to determine the origin of human life. Their moon base is sabotaged and there is a giant explosion that sends to moon off into space and destroys the weather systems on earth. They don't know if it was caused by the UFOs or the shadow organisation who want to find out more about the origins of human life and evolve humanity to become higher order beings like the UFOs.

The music and multiple camera shots are referenced in Evangelion.

Fly me to the Moon ED makes more sense as a reference to UFO / SPACE 1999 as well.
