It's clichée at this point, and I know I have said it before, but nothing can beat Dragon Ball's opening and closing for me.

Got banned in my country after it finished airing on kids tv in the morning. Something about nudity, violence, genocide, trans characters and incest not being for kids.

It was a ratings hit, so at least they finished showing it. Xmen, DBZ and Tekkaman then Pokemion, aired in the same time slot.

What do kids have today? Pepe pig or some shit.

I went in with a bias, and I have sentimental attachment to Dragon Ball still. But ok, that is legitimately kickass. And gorgeous.

Though with that said I often find myself preferring more relaxed stuff. As long as it's not lobotomized.
I don't especially care for "Z," on account of this. Though it has good moments sometimes.

I didn't appreciate it enough when it was on, but among more recent cartoons Adventure Time was sometimes surprisingly good. Didn't watch most of it though; who has the time.
Avatar was of course the best, as far as "wholesome" TV shows go.

Also to be fair there was plenty of garbage back then, too, although I can't think of anything new that can match the best of that older stuff either.

Good choices. And I agree about the energy levels. Though visually Tekkaman looks gorgeous.

Which of the animated series did you watch? I know of at least the 80's one and the 60's one. Assuming it was the 80's one?

Unless you mean for animation quality - in which case you are correct with the exception of Dragon Ball - here you go. A handful of easier ones to find on youtube. I like them musically.
I will agree that there are many more memorable openings though.
Another disclaimer: I do not watch anime very often at all. So you may and probably do know more than I do.

I wish there was more Banner of the Stars. LOGH is so awesome but I haven't watched the remake.

The rivalry between the main two characters is so good in LOGH. The only negative is that I feel it has the same downfall later in the series as Death Note.

I think we heard it too much during the 90s. I used to listen to the OSTs a lot like more than 20 years ago... yikes.

Just imagine it's Cowboy Bebop and Trigun and Gun x Sword mashed together.

Add some Nadesico and Vandread and Saber Marionette J for the genki girls.

That was really dark until Saban completely butchered it.

It's one saving grace was the final battle between Blade and Sabre.

The original Japanese score was trashed and replaced with far better music.

I had the VHS somewhere too. The quality of a lot of my VHS tape recordings was pretty poor as I used the LP function.

There were a couple of versions of the Tekkaman dub, the first Saban one which was the first I saw. Then one by the same team that did the Ghost Stories dub, and it was a riot.

When I watched the original Japanese sub when it was available, the story was way darker.
