Yeah this change is extremely bad for all the reasons you listed, not having proper pagination removes your ability to keep a reference point for when you are browsing through galleries. So far the site it looks the same as it always did on E-hentai since my settings were always on "show gallery page numbers", but it doesn't affect e-hentai which is now a pain to navigate with it's inept UI update choice.

How can you jump to specific pages with this new setting??

How do you know on with page you're currently are? - I don't get it....

Ok, these changes came as a shock, but I slowly unterstand how these GID based search works.
And your're right there are some benefits, so maybe changing the system was the right thing to do.

BUT, without a proper way to navigate through these GIDs and without any kind of orientation or reference point,
this new GID system is barely usable or expedient. This clearly needs some improvement.

And please bring the option for the complete archive list back, which includes all results, visible, expunged, low power,...

Mind explaining how GID works and the benefits? Can't see this apart from being a downside tbh.

So I went to my settings to change the page number setting but it would not work (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Ah I see, shoot. Is there an option for the general gallery browsing back to numbered?
That always helped me navigate so it would be nice to have it back.

Just wanted to add my voice to the general; the new format is not that good sentiment going on.

Was the update done for function reasons? Everything looks kind of broken, the search's advanced options are not as good as they used to be, and lacking page numbers really makes searching for some things and navigating harder.

edit: Ok, I read around and discovered that apparently keeping the numbers was way too hard / heavy. Since I don't know anything about coding or web design I can only accept it and move on.

I noticed the comments doesn't have a threshold anymore, but why? i mean, isn't that one of the whole reasons downvotes exists? surely maybe make it so a comment needs more downvotes to be hidden might help avoid angry trolls, but remove? why? was it that detrimental to the site itself?

Personally I figured it was due to the cache backend failures from that time because it seemed to go into that read-only state.

- The archiver now always charges downloads in GP.

- The archiver and full image downloads now both auto-convert Credits to GP using the "High" rate from the last 24 hours in the exchange if you have a Credit balance but insufficient GP. (In other words, you can still usually eke out a 1-2% better rate by converting manually, but doing so is no longer essential.)

1. This removes a pitfall and will help many users. If you like, I think you can apply the same conversion code to the resetting of the image viewing limit to be consistent, which is probably still using 1 credit = 1 GP?

2. However, this does work in an unnatural way that circumvents the market, which is possibly why you did not do this back then? GP has fewer uses than credits and removing a major need to buy it on the exchange might eventually have a sizeable impact on the exchange orders and hence prices, depending on how many people switch from the exchange to this new auto-conversion. You might want to look at how much GP is spent on each use over the same period.

3. Depending on how the exchange rate is broadly moving, the guaranteed conversion rate that is equal to the 24-hour market high does not necessarily make the auto-conversion more costly than market conversion, although it probably will considering the lower demand from point 2 above.

I kinda forgot about that one using the dynamic GP or Credits thing, so yeah, I'll change that one as well.

I don't think it'll really change much in that regard. The people who weren't exchanging Credits for GP before probably won't start doing so, so the only difference for them is they won't get shafted on the exchange rate. And the people who were exchanging it before will probably continue, seeing as you will usually still save a little bit.

True, but on average it will be.

Ultimately, the goal was just to reduce the instances of "computer says no" for the source download function, and it makes sense to use it in other relevant places as well.
