Wouldn't having Source Nexus hath perk enabled help?
I have no trouble viewing the original images, just the thumbnails and the resized ones.
Couldn't you just turn on the option to always view the originals and then set the scaling down in the settings?
The thumbnails are whatever, but at least I could just simply browse the galleries themselves without having to downloaed them every time?
Wouldn't that solve the issue? Sadly I don't have enough hath right now to see if that works.

Source Nexus does not guarantee you original images.
QUOTE(Tenboro @ Jan 12 2021, 20:33) *

- When browsing with "Prefer original images" enabled, the cutoff for when resampled images will be used is now 10 MiB for galleries posted in the last year, and 4 MiB for older galleries.

And the original images could be WebP themselves.

Oh well, too bad.

What browser are you on? I'm on an older version of FF because it has useful extensions that newer browsers don't have.

If you absolutely NEED old XUL add-ons switch to [www.palemoon.org] Pale Moon. It was forked from Firefox 52 ESR right before they depreciated XUL add-one, so it still supports them. It also has many more security updates than a beyond out-of-date FF install and also has support updates, such as WebP support.

I WOULD NOT recommend it as a daily driver, but if you NEED XUL add-ons for a site or two, it's not a bad option. Infinitely better than an old version of FF.

They have their [addons.palemoon.org] own add-on repo. Combine that with the [github.com] Classic Add-on Archive and you should have everything you need.

Yep, same.

Weirdly enough, I can actually see webp thumbnails on some sites when they're posted, for example some of the image boards, but not here on EH.

The "similarity scan" function for file searches was incredibly useful to me. It's been almost 10 months since it was taken down, and I really miss it.

Could you let me know if there are any plans to reimplement and relaunch this feature in the future?

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Nov 3 2024, 06:31) *

Kinda, but you're the first person who has asked for it since it was disabled, so it's not really a priority. I'd suggest just using SauceNAO or whatever the kids are using these days.

Headsup, Saucenao has stopped updating since November 2023 across all services: Pixiv, Nijie, Twitter, etc etc, none are updated beyond November 2023. I know since I actually use their paid service, not sure what is going on over there.

Do you mean the website's functions itself, or it paging for the sources? Because I just ran it through several searches and have no problems finding sources as recent as yesterday, at least with Pixiv and Twitter.

It's amazing that the resampled images have been changed to WebP. I hope that the archive download will be in 1920x resolution instead of 1280x in the future

Paging for the sources, any content that are uploaded after November 2023 rather from Pixiv, Twitter, etc, are simply not recorded in saucenao. Find any content from Pixiv uploaded after November 2023, use it to search saucenao again, saucenao will have no relevant results because it stopped updating its database.

I'm not going to discount your experience with the site and also since you've also said you've used their paid services, but right after reading this I did a search on art that were published in March, July, August, September 2024 and as recent as yesterday (November 10th 2024) and they all return accurate sources. I'm not entirely sure what went wrong for you and Sirnotalot that the site isn't updating.

That said, this is a thread about EH updates and not about saucenao, might be best if we take this discussion elsewhere or stop here.

Keeping it short but, your results are likely from boorus, not directly from Pixiv : See how the second image uploaded after November 2023 only has results from boorus?

Using the superior webp format?

Some quotes:

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Nov 10 2024, 17:22) *

The quality increase is largest for the 780/800 resamples, to the point where the WebP files are slightly larger than the old JPEG ones, so let's compare some actual files generated for this gallery which was upgraded from v1 to v2.

Page 14: JPEG vs WebP

Page 15: JPEG vs WebP

If you actually think the artifacted JPEG mess looks better than the WebP ones, you need new glasses.

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Oct 28 2024, 17:43) *

Download the originals for offline viewing then. We waited five years after all major browsers started supporting WebP, and at this point it is near-ubiquitously supported by all maintained software, with native support in Win 10 and 11, so it is time to make the switch.

WebP is 30-50% smaller than JPEG at the same quality based on my own testing - and for the record, we aren't prioritizing making the files smaller, instead the quality has been set much higher.

JPEG is from 1992, and is anachronistic to say the least in 2024. It belongs with the rest of the tech in [old.reddit.com] this video.

- When updating galleries, any existing v1 images in the gallery are now upgraded to v2 to avoid an inconsistent mix of resamples. Let me know if you notice any issues with this.

In fact, this will lead to another issue: some images in other old galleries with the same pictures will be updated to V2 format.

For example, after the update, the gallery https://e-hentai.org/g/3121288/48a2172300/ was entirely upgraded to V2 images. However, this also caused only P5/6/7 in the gallery https://e-hentai.org/g/3105454/75245acfbc/ to become V2 images, while the other images remained unchanged.

True, but the system should handle that gracefully. All (current/public/non-expunged) galleries will be v2 eventually anyway, and that other gallery should get processed within a day or so.

It seems galleries converted to v2 still have v1 resampled archives.
Will they get v2 archives only after the archives are recreated (not downloaded in 30 days)?

The system doesn't have a mechanism to invalidate *only* resample archives, so they won't be recreated until they expire or I manually purge them.

Edit: Well, it does now.

Not really worth a new thread I guess, maybe related to system update, so posting it here:

Quotation marks in gallery comments are ignored.

For example, if you write

CODE

"Bad and evil"

the comment will be displayed as

CODE

Bad and evil

or

CODE

This"only

will be displayed as

CODE

Thisonly

But “ and ” instead of " will be displayed normally.
