Radiator fan got me in one more place. Car was still pissing blue coolant, so I put it up on ramps and investigated. Thought it might be the tube under the fan shroud, or connection on top of the aux water pump. Nope. It managed to punch a hole in my aluminum radiator core near the top corner. All the hose fittings and end tank crimps are bone dry.

I never put actual coolant in when I've taken hoses off because of stuff like this. You may be able to get it repaired, but the cost isn't that much less than getting a new one. Pick a part might be helpful in this regard but make sure you buy the warranty on any parts you get.

I just ordered the most OEM looking radiator on rockauto. On coolant, I estimate some 1-1/2 gallons came out. I got about half of that back in a jug and clean. The rest was either full of junk after I decanted the clean liquid, sprayed over my face, soaked into my hoodie, or on the ground. I have just shy of 2 gallons of virgin coolant, so I shouldn't need much, if any, of the recovered stuff.
The stopcock seems to be just a quarter turn locking plug, not a valve, and is a very tight fit. What should I grease it with for the next time I have to pull it out?

Full list of things it broke, or that weren't reusable: Fan Blades (No shit) Fan Shroud A PCV Line A Headlight Ballast (spray of hot glycol rather than a direct hit) Electric Fan Thermostat, and it's pigtail Upper Radiator Hose Lower Radiator Hose Temp Sensor for Lower Hose Coolant Resivoir Fan Clutch (It was bad, and I'm told the fluid in them weakens the fan) Water Pump (Old one inseperable from clutch) Water Pump Pulley (ditto) Nasty dent in the hood I'm not going to fix Big ol cut in the hood insulation I haven't decided how to deal with yet For good measure while I was in there/PM: Thermostat, Housing, and Sensor assembly Radiator cap I replaced the serpentine belts a few months ago, and I don't see any damage on them.

Replaced the radiator and the -I'm guessing it's used for pressure equalization hose, it's a 5/16 hose that runs under the fan shround between the resivoir and the top of the radiator.
Turns out the fan shroud can be unclipped with the fan in, then shoving it back allows just enough room to unbolt the fan if you lose a bit of knuckle skin. Once the fan is unbolted, you can pull it and the shroud as one unit.
Took 2 gallons of coolant, so I didn't have to use any of what I caught, though I will hang onto it. I'll likely run it through a cloth or something to catch anything I missed when I decanted the first time.
It started raining and kept it up all weekend, so no hood pins yet.

Yeah even non-petrol options are through the roof. The greens killed off ethanol fuel mostly here. Previously E70 was 70 cents per L and E85 was 129 cents per L when Petrol was 180-190 per litre. Now can't even buy E70 and E85 is 169 per litre, but mileage is 20-30% worse. In my car we 'deoptmized' the engine for ethanol by lowering the compression ratio, which made it a load safer on regular premium octane. My car might not even explode on slightly lower octane now, but I wouldn't risk it unless I had too. I'd probably have to drive super carefully. Probably not 91 octane, as that fuel quality is terrible here. The government was paying billions to prop up the refineries and supposedly they were suppose to use the high profits to upgrade and maintain the plants... they didn't... We have one good refinery that produces 95 and 98 octane that matches most western nations. One super shit ancient refinery that produces trash tier 91 / 87 that matches most African / middle eastern nations. But its cheaper than most western nations.... We have lost our 10 other refineries because global companies want subsidies but don't invest anything back. Our government was pretty dumb to not mandate an investment ratio in return for subsidies. It's looking like I'm going to be getting a K-Jetronic car in the next couple weeks.
Assuming this goes through, I'm bracing myself.

Drove for 9 hours yesterday to pick up this stripped down Kingswood skeleton. Now the sanding and welding can begin.

So do you have parts to make a full car out of this? Or are you planning to gather them? I don't know the first thing about Holden unfortunately (being american). Here's the one I'm seriously considering picking up. [ i.imgur.com] (IMG:[i.imgur.com] https://i.imgur.com/EgcdsvUg.jpg) I know where this one is physically located, and know the owner. So hopefully things will go smoothly. It's also not an internet listing so no one will swoop in and sabotage my purchase. It's a 122, so dual carburetor B18 engine (1.8L inline 4 pushrod). I have a relative with a similar car who offered it to me, but I'd have to go to Seattle with a trailer to get it so I don't know if or when that'll happen. The pricks are inside the BMW. (Is that the answer?) No offense meant to you, though, wayward. BMW's of at least a certain age become less likely to be owned by pricks. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Dec 6 2021, 09:59

I saw a duett in a craigslist listing out in colorado a few years ago that would have been great for that. Also a 2CV listing in texas several years ago. 2CV's are pretty rare here; I've seen one in person. Do you have an engine hoist, and if not what shade-tree method do you use? That's one of the many things I need to get still. This post has been edited by dragontamer8740: Dec 6 2021, 17:11

Yeah I have one. I'm thinking about welding together a rotisserie so I can just flip it over to weld and paint.

Thats cool, I'd never get through finishing a project like that.
I still haven't replaced some of the parts on my current car.
