Well it looks like the second one hasn't started yet so he's still doing 1 auction for now. As for auction management... good start would be filtering out most of the unsellables (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Running two auctions simultaneously just screams the question "why didn't you just combine the two?" - easier to manage isn't really an excuse IMO =\

@wr4st3r Just because it happens often doesn't mean it's alright. "It's the internet and that is bound to happen"? I don't think that's the right mentality for anyone that desires improvement. And honestly, I don't want to sound insulting but it hints at complacency - the masterful ingredient to disaster (bah risk management courses).

Well of course it's not alright, I just wanted to stress the inevitability of it: someone may not know there's rules (or stickies, or wikis etc, you get my point), someone might not care about them and so on.
Just because that happens doesn't mean there can't be improvement though...

And that's not insulting one bit, I understand what you're saying here^^

QUOTE(dcherry @ Jan 19 2012, 21:11) *

I think a separate forum section for auctions/shops respectively is a nice idea since the two attract different types of buyers, but I'm thinking it's not really going to appeal to T. It just means extra work for him. Thread credit toll on the other hand... Might appeal to him a tad more (although I assume it'd be minimal at best)

Uhm I'm not sure but, why would that mean extra work to Tenb?

I mean, creating a forum section takes like a couple clicks and will improve the section readability by a lot - while creating a toll system which can actually work without penalizing anyone takes some time.

Not that I care that much about it, with the existing threads there's pretty much zero need to create more, auctions aside...
That's why it looks like a waste of time to me, to even create a whole toll system, since aside from wtb/wts shops everybody will probably just create a new thread only when there's enough stuff to deserve an auction.

Paying to create threads looks like a weak deterrent to prevent spam by scaring people (with the risk of losing credits), but again, it's just my personal opinion on the matter...

QUOTE(dcherry @ Jan 19 2012, 21:11) *

Better moderation would be a nice solution on paper but there's just a few problems with that. We have a shortage of moderators as is. It's not a walk in the park being a diplomatic moderator and having to guide the newbies around - I've read a few threads in the past where posters were actually flaming Sayo (iirc). T doesn't look like he plans on promoting any moderators any time soon and I don't see Sayo come back anytime soon either.

I can't speak for T, but I don't really think the most populated section (behind General Chat, which incidentally contains the Spamhouse) on the site should be left without mods.

It's not like we lack skilled people though, there's guys who'd easily take my vote were they to apply for moderation, because of their knowledge of HV, dedication and activity.
Tenboro is the owner and he should pick people he trusts, but maybe we can help him pointing towards someone who's open for the spot and speed up the process, I dunno...

And to tell the truth, the majority of the work would actually be to lock threads and redirect users (to the wiki, stickies etc), plus deleting threads (auctions only if we think those should be deleted, otherwise there wouldn't even be a need for this with guidelines like the above): is really a strong diplomat needed for that?

Sure you don't want someone who will just yell at newbies and tell them to die in a car fire, but I don't recall anyone that bad around these parts lol...

QUOTE(dcherry @ Jan 19 2012, 21:11) *

There's no reason to split consumables and gear into separate threads. It's the same person buying.
Bump rule is not a big problem from what I've seen, *most* players are pretty respectful of that here.
There are no multiple auctions per user - that's counterproductive.

Those were just examples I threw there^^;;

I too wouldn't allow for more than a single thread, though when you create your own thread and you're looking for:

- Consumables
- Forge stuff
- Gear
- You're willing to trade your gear/stuff for more gear/the above stuff

A single thread can get messy...

Not that I have a solution for that (I am guilty for that I guess lol, as I made two threads in the wtb section, one which I edit for consumables and one for equip upgrades), I was actually thinking about that right after posting :E

@wr4st3r Yes, from my experience there are a lot of viewers but not many posters as is. Out of our limited pool of posters, it's just the few exceptions that don't read the rules (well, it's excusable but negligence is still negligence IMO) or don't care (douchebags)

I've seen a few instances where someone would post in a thread and forward them to where they *could* be posting only to get the guy countering them with a "I didn't do anything wrong, go f*** yourself" etc. The way I see it, the toll isn't as bad as it sounds.
Most of the existing players will be literally unaffected.
Some will have to change their habits a little (won't be hard)
And the douches will have to think twice or lose some credits.

As for the two thread sections I assume he'd have to move auctions etc over to the auction section. Will take a bit. And I'm given the impression he doesn't really want to modify much on the forum itself (but that's just my hunch)

Getting more Mods is probably the best solution but I think I've seen the issue about Mods get discussed a few times already. It went nowhere. Hence I'm gunning for an alternate solution.

As for threads... I think if you manage right it's fine. Neither of my threads feel very messy at all.

Edit: Posters don't need to pay attention to anything other than post 1 and I only have to pay attention to recent posts.

As for Mod nominees I think there are only 2 people in HV chat that I've seen fit to be a Mod at the moment.

can we have gem drops be more noticeable... i.e. different color text or something

I support this too. HV STAT significantly increases page load time, even with everything disabled. I wouldn't use STAT at all if not for the gem icons.

There's a combat log gem text highlighter add-on somewhere that I use. Saves me from having to use STAT X(

Highlighting the text is a good start, but it could still potentially be hidden once there are so many enemies per round that you have to scroll to see all of the battle log after just 1 turn. What would be perfect is if someone could strip the powergem icon addition from STAT to use as a standalone script. I don't know enough about JScript to do it myself though.

Yeah, that happens sometimes. End up hitting the gem hotkey every few rounds just in case. Still faster than using STAT though, so it's still a net plus (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Cause I like being able to look at the base values of equipment easily, that's the only reason I still use FF

Perfect! Bulky old STAT can finally hit the trash heap. Having to hit G after every round without STAT was starting to get annoying as well. Thanks a bunch.

I support having gem drops more noticeable.
It can be done with items/equipments/artifacts, so there's no reason why gems can't have its own color.

Well long story short... (in order to fit into Tenb's screen)

1. It seems a common consensus (among those who attended the discussion, of course) to get moderators.

2. Separation between auction/shops seems probable?

3. More formalized rules (not strict) so people can follow. That's the part where opinions differ.

@dcherry

The reason I don't support credits per new post is because everyone should have the right to start new threads.
Putting in extra constraints will cause self-censorship problem.
