Whatever pain you were in, I hope you are free and in pain no more. You have so many awards but I hope your final award is a wonderful place in paradise.
I'd vote for either, tbh (Blue Penguin would probably be a good one; you might be good or maybe just entertaining). I don't think I'm a good pick, though, for sure (not that I'm even "senior" enough to even be in the running in this purely hypothetical contest. Sure, I've been around a while, but definitely not a real presence anywhere for most of that time).

I don't even like Maximum Joe that much.
That quote will never get used against you in some ad hominem argument, no siree. I didn't like Banana Cream Cake, either, but still acknowledged he did a lot for the site as a whole and appreciated it.
RIP, Joe.
I wonder what will become of his banana cream cake gallery, now. Some of those comments were fantastic.
I can actually do his voice. ("what a wonderful world," Louis Armstrong, if the video is blocked)

When I read the newspaper article I was like god damn it, fuck off 2020. Don't know if that was max and don't really want to confirm, otherwise I'll just get angry.
Thanks for the help on various things Joe, just wish the world wasn't as shit.

Which newspaper article is this? I missed it I guess.
Come back after 2-3 years and someone dies right off the bat. I wonder how many other maximum joe cases have happened since I stepped out, but to less or no fanfare? How many have happened and I just never got the final memo?
It almost doesn't feel real to get closure, even when I practically never interacted with the lad.

Depends how close and active the community is, whether you notice or not. If someone is actively contributing to the system then its more likely to be noticed.
There was one forum I was on where the number seemed like a lot, it was around 25-30. All sorts of different causes. That was just the people that we were about to connect to real life.
Edit: I just realized you had first post after Tenb in that thread.
Yeah, but he said "newspaper", which made me think someone off-site was talking about it. It was just a misunderstanding on my part, I guess.
And regarding leaving, I've been one of maybe ten people (at a time, people come and go) on an imageboard that's kind of floated around and gone massively off-topic for about four or five years. When 8ch died, it relocated, too, after a couple months of me keeping contact with three of them via IRC. New faces come in occasionally, and people leave almost as often. I'd say maybe three of the old crowd are still on there. I think one guy (who said he was black) probably got driven off by a certain highly vocal alt-right dude there. By alt-right, I mean he actually unironically thinks Hitler did nothing wrong and has defended national socialism on multiple occasions.
Today he said: >It's a life of struggle centered around amateur drawings of foxgirls, Soviet cassette tapes, old Mercedes sedans, and fascist aesthetics. But I am batshit insane enough to make it work.
I don't mind him too much (he's kind of interesting to have a back-and-forth with, since he actually appears to have put a decent amount of thought into his beliefs), but I do make sure to talk about other things besides politics sometimes to prevent it getting too acidic and driving away more. We both like old european cars, for instance, and he's a big fan of OpenBSD, which I also like for some things. And he also uses emacs.
I know one other guy who got driven off whom I played runescape with (before my account got hacked and I decided it wasn't worth getting all my stuff back again). I actually have his phone number and we text occasionally still. I introduced him to IRC as well, but he never really stuck with it. We talk about prog rock and good cartoons a lot. He introduced me to the Alan Parsons Project.
That board started off as being a place where I (and others) posted builds of a pornographic flash game, but as the game got progressively worse we basically stopped caring about it and now we all just pretty much blog post on it every few days. I'm trying to help a guy get Linux running on a DEC AlphaServer right now. Despite the personality conflicts I'd say we're pretty close. I stopped posting for a week or two and people assumed I'd either died or gotten driven off when a christfag joined the board (the "last straw"). Really I'd just been busy.
