You have to disable all the visible options, edit the registry and use group policy to shut down 98% of the data telemetry.

Well what do you guys do about it ? There were news of folks getting busted for possessing some doujins that depict questionably young cartoon character and we’re living in authoritarian climate so I’d rather not take chances.

And do please stop with “but older windows does it too”. We all know w10 is a pos OS riddled with ads and spyware of unmatched magnitude.

The ones that care about it probably don't use it. A tonne of the stuff is hard coded, and probably takes more effort stopping than it does just to install a different os.

Telemetry was backported to Win7 as well so unless you're gonna sit back in 2020 and rock XP it's all relatively the same.

The answer is don't use Windows.

Look into disabling the telemetry, privacytools should be able to help you.

Duh.

Also, older Windows (down to 7 at least) does it, too.

I'd argue that XP's "Genuine Advantage" constitutes spyware as well.

And forced automatic updating constitutes a backdoor to run arbitrary code on your computer.

Not much more to do...maybe migrating in a country with different laws may work better if you really need Windows 10.

The old beliefs of "Tree Hidden By Forest" or "Sheep Hidden in the Herd" fails in the computer age. The expert system go through the databases on their own automatically updating whatever sets of "scores" are used to evaluate people. If the score is high enough, then a more detailed check is run on that particular person to refine the latest set of scores. It's nothing new as insurance companies already do this. So it would be reasonable to assume the various governments do something similar. And you already know China does it since they even have officer kiosks that overlay social evaluations on top of people's figures as they walk through a crowd on the sidewalk. Yes, it scans the whole "herd" of people on the sidewalk and everyone has evaluations which automatically move with them sort of like you already see in online games where other players and monsters can have their data hovering over their heads. There's no "tree hidden by the forest" in the modern computer age since the masses of people didn't regard their privacy as being important enough to make sure the politicians knew that too. Without enough voter input, the politicians are just going to listen to their wallets accepting kickbacks or lobbyist favors during election years.

I don't think I do, but the most immediate problem here is Microsoft-attractive stuff. I don't want to be marketed to (though I'm not sure how much telemetry plays into that), and more pertinently to telemetry I sure as hell don't want my computer phoning anyone else without my explicit wish.

Of course, the only way to be totally secure is to have written absolutely all code on your system yourself, including any and all compilers and the microcode. But by using W10 you are still far less able to trust your computer than if you don't.

The answer is use a customized build.

It doesn't really matter how much telemetry is included, if you strip it down and then put in firewalls and other blocks then nothing can phone out or in.

If choosing to opt out of w10 is easy then I wouldn’t make this topic. With w7 support withdrawn its only a matter of time,and Linux isn’t really a practical option unless you’re fine with not ever running half of today’s video games or software.

What country do you live in where you have to be worried about saving hentai? There are much worse things you could be storing on your PC. Like memes.
