HVMarket will be permanently closed for personal health reasons.

When the account is unbanned, it should continue automatically sending out stock. It's also now configured properly to no longer receive new mails. Any items that were collected in this time were still recorded and will still be returned. The order in which the items is returned may be chaotic and due to rate limitations, it may still take several days to return all stock (there's still about half of it remaining, across over 10,000 separate stock records). All credits should also be accounted for. The only players that may lose something are those who return recalls (which are not tracked, if I recall, due to edge cases with the special MoogleMail sender) and those who changed their username without ever updating their HVMarket account.

I am also retiring from HV for the foreseeable future. I apologise to everyone who was inconvenienced by this abrupt and irresponsible shutdown process. And thank you for participating in HVMarket - I made it because I wanted it to exist for myself as a player too, and it would not have been possible without community acceptance, adoption and feedback. Especially thank you to Shank, megawife-acc, firew, Literal Genie, KitsuneAbby, zhenterzzf, Ming28561, translators and foreign-language guide writers, Ikki Pop (your UI script was really cool!), Xeda, Jake643, and more.

Also thanks to Tenboro for the special exceptions made to allow HVMarket to exist, and to Superlatanium, sssss2 and sickentide for their services & scripts - without that work I doubt I would have ever been inspired to learn to do more, nor would I have envisioned a simple browser game with such a small community to be vibrant enough that it would support a whole ecosystem of extensions and interactive platforms beyond its own minor footprint on the overall site.

Item send-outs have resumed. Sorry about the delay. It's probably still gonna take a little while and I'm going to check in on it until it's properly emptied.

I'm not willing to make HVMarket's code public in part because I'm aware of some flaws in it that I don't have the energy to fix right now, but also because it's just not very well managed as a project. I have not worked in the field before and I had not used many of the technologies involved before. I could offer advice and my knowledge about some of the edge cases when I've got time - the only part of the HVMarket code that might save anyone time is just knowing the branching paths in the mail system, and it's probably easier to relay that in English.

I can save a little time and advise against it [i.e. recreating HVMarket] for now, except in collaboration with Tenboro if an easier MoogleMail API were made accessible. The current interface is cumbersome (specifically regarding tracking CoD payments as the credit log is prone to missing entries, and the special MoogleMail sender & its functions in general) for programmer extension, and that will take time to navigate and properly test.

Later in the year I'm hoping to be back to spending more time at a desk programming. I have another project I want to work on. But if there's anything interesting going on in HV then I'll have a look at it and see if I can help.

In particular responding to the bolded part: there are limitations with the system that mean the forums will not be obsoleted.

Primarily, these are:

1) Crystal packs (and other packs of items commonly sold together) cannot be done with my system.
2) Equipment is not supported and never will be.

I actually think it will benefit the forums if it lightens the load of only item trading, though.

Super's auction is now backed up with too many items, and we have to wait to list equipment on it. And it will be easier to navigate shops looking for equipment if fewer item-only shops exist.

Yeah the site is temporarily down because I fucked up and changed the email on the market account. It was easier to just kill the server than restrict access to all the HV facing functions (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

It's robust enough that it will carry on working as usual during HV downtime should that ever happen, but it re-attempts things every 10 seconds until it comes back up so... also decided it would be clearer than trying to explain it was broken, do not use.

Every non-equipment item is sellable. The only problem with old shrine artifacts is that, when sorting by item name, the HV-Inventory-Style order will show them at the bottom instead of in their proper place. (I wrote a dictionary of item names & their positions - if an item name isn't in the dictionary, it is automatically assigned a position of 999).

For single crystals, partial-credit pricing is supported (eg 1.5c per crystal). The final sale price is rounded up to the nearest whole number.

The reason crystal packs are not supported is that there is no way to send the entire pack in one mail, and therefore no way to ensure someone doesn't abuse the system by accepting only one of the two mails required. Because it was considerably more complex code (and more opportunity for bugs!) I removed it entirely, because all other pack types are less important, and probably full crystal packs will continue to be traded in WTB as normal.

Yeah, I considered that, but like I say - I think most big buyers would continue to still prefer buying whole packs, so I discontinued work on that feature for now.

If HVMarket takes off & it continues to be frequently requested, I will probably put it back in, in a future update.

I think it is better to add (prev | next) button in the down of page? After looking page in the end, it has to go back to the beginning of page and click next.

The first thing mentioned, I will probably implement in about a week or so. I need to migrate form submission into pure js anyway, I think, to allow it to remember the scroll height when returning to the page (tech details: current implementation is kind of hacky - it's using js to fill in values from the boxes into an invisible form then submitting that, and though it happens too fast to see, I believe it's returning scroll height to where the form technically is in the HTML). But I have RL things I have to deal with first (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Second - yeah, I will do this. I also want to add in partial recalls, so I will have to make sure the table isn't too cluttered with this many things. But with a single button for 'update prices' or 'recall' at the top, it will make those columns narrower.

As always, the master of quality of life improvements has already requested a fix... maybe soon would be a good time to compile a master list of those UI QoL changes for Tenboro's future reference.

Can I suggest that you display the actual price that we have to pay to get the item? Now it shows the value that the seller gets, not the value that the buyer gets.

I was wondering what happens if someone buys all of a listing you've made. Does it still show up in "Your Listings", but with quantity 0? Are your selling prices saved for next time?

No, it disappears from your listings, and the prices are not saved. There is a reason for this - imagine if you waited a long time before listing any more items. In that time, the prices have gone up a lot. But when you send in your new items, they remember your old low price, and someone immediately buys them before you can replace them.

It is a pain. In future there will be adjustments to make setting prices again easier. One possibility is that it might remember prices and only ask you to click to activate it. In this case, any item you have set a price for before may be remembered and shown in your listings.
