Small patch this time. But what it lacks in size, it makes up with excessive headlines.

It's a popularity contest

- Added an experimental "Popular Right Now" pane that's displayed below the recently added results on the front page. This pane is updated with real-time traffic data to reflect the galleries that have received most traffic during the past few minutes.

Since thumbnails are no longer a problem

- The base number of result rows has been increased back to 25. It was originally reduced to lower the thumbnail load, but since forever ago that hasn't really been an issue anymore.

- The hath perks have been scaled up to give 30/35/40/50/60/80/100 rows.

Connecting People

- There is now an icon on the Gallery page to reach the Contact/PM page on the forums for the uploader. At the very least there will be a PM link here, and depending on the member's preference and entered data, other contact information may also be available.

Invalid whatsa?

- Images with certain characters in the filename could fail with an "Invalid character sequence" error during uploading if there was also a corruption in the image. This should no longer happen.

As for the new upload server, it's currently syncing up the remaining data from the old one. If you wonder why this couldn't be done before, I had to wait for it to be quiescent to make sure to get all of it. Judging by the speed it's going at now, this could take up to three or four more hours.

There I was, browsing the galleries as usual, when I suddenly saw something strange. "Why is there a Gmail icon next to the uploader's name?" I thought. Then I realised that it must be some new gallery feature that Tenboro thought up all on his own.

First off this update is nothing but good news!
I have been waiting for something like the "popular right now" box. That said I believe it should be filtered by the tags that we have set like the search results are. It just seems odd that it isn't, but you mentioned that it is experimental so you might have already planned to do this.

I've already tried this, and have a small enhancement request. Please have the mail icon spawn a new tab. It's helpful to be able to see the gallery you're writing about, and at the moment, clicking the mail icon replaces the gallery page with the user info page.

Other than that difficulty, it is much welcome.

You could just hold Ctrl when you click it.

Or click with the middle mousbutton.

i like the new mail icon because now it is easier to send pms to people about their galleries

This pane also shows up every time one does a File Search - which makes it a nuisance, if I do one File Search, it returns no results, then I do another File Search, and I sit there, waiting until the page finishes loading, and wondering if it already told me there is no results for the second search and now it only tries to load images, or if it's still getting the file I submitted.

Also, the thumbnails in the "Popular Right Now" pane don't load for me currently, only empty spaces where the pictures should be.

EDIT: Thumbnails on the uploaded gallery in "This is only a preview" page don't show either... bad time to be uploading?

As for the "Popular Right Now", could there be any implementation in the Settings to turn it off? As far as I can see, it should only tend to reflect "Uploaded Recently" more than popularity overall, because that's the nature of sites like these.

It's not supposed to show up during File Search, I'm gonna fix that. As for the thumbnails, the server is a bit bogged down with the verification, it'll probably be like that for about eight hours. At least now everything just finished syncing off it. But I don't think it'll hurt uploading any, it's not logging any timeouts or whatnots.

No, I just meant I usually verify the page order before I publish, and it's impossible with thumbnails not loading. But it seems to be ok now.

I second this. While it's a good idea, I don't need to be reminded of the user base's lack of taste.
