as title says. i just received a report from decon saying that in the foreseeable future he cannot grant he will continue to work on FreeSHop at this pace.

of course, nothing wrong with this. everyone has a personal life to attend, and i take the chance to thank him in stead of all the newbies he supported for the time he spent helping this project to run.

but at the same point, i also need to find someone else to grant a bit of continuity. you all know the spirit of the service, so please post here if you think you may be willing to partecipate, and the current operator/supervisor staff will discuss your candidacy(es).

ideally we're looking for a *trusted* someone who knows a bit of the current market, what low-level players may need, will be available for a few time (not compulsory as 24/7, i mean for more than a couple weeks) and is well-known by the community as well.

Adding my two cents here.

To do the job of FreeSHop operator, having extended knowledge of the market and being proficient in tending to a shop isn't an absolute necessity. I do can manage these things as I've always done, and that task needs to be done roughly once per month. So that's not really an issue.

What we are really expecting from an operator is to do the job of dispensing the equipments and consumables, relatively regularly without going in the extremes (everyday is useless and will burn you out). And that is the one thing that I can't guarantee anymore. Not with the volume of requests that increased significantly these 2 last months. With that current volume, it takes roughly 1-1.5 hours every 2-3 days to process the requests, with a bit of a habit.

Well. Now you have a rough idea of the amount of work it takes.

I have will and time, I think I may have the abilities, but I'm not sure if I'm a trusted person you seek since I rarely post in forum.

Thanks for the assessment.

Is it really hours of work by necessity? How many requests are there to serve, roughly, per day?

I guess it can be done in a bit less time, but you'd have to check if all the requests are valid and you need to find the right equip etc.

At best the sending of consumables could be sped up a tiny bit by using a format for HV Toolbox. But in exchange it'd make sent MoogleMails look rather crude, failing to show clearly the packs that have been requested. I don't really support that.

You've got to be aware that the operator has to:
  • Check the validity of the request (level of player, when was the last request, ...)
  • Keep track of the sent equipments, which is the #1 time-consuming activity and there is no way around it
  • Actually send the equipments, which can be tricky when the requested equips are "generic" (plain Mag Leather for example)
  • Send the consumables, which requires a fair amount of typing numbers, a fair amount of scroll down and a fair amount of clicks. It's very frequent to send 9-11 item types because a player has requested a pack. Bonus points when both infusions pack and scrolls packs are requested at once.
  • Reply to the players. Even though we do can afford just ignoring invalid requests without writing a word about it, we still have the duty of answering to the questions and providing them with information. Even if the question can be answered by reading the related posts.
  • Be nice and act with care, take the time needed to do things. Butchering the job, thus lacking respect, is a no-go.

As for how many requests per day... It tends to vary. The last batch was 14 requests posted within 3 days, which is already around 40 minutes for me, but already too much given the frequency and all the other things I have to do.

I didn't know before how long other people took to send the items. I don't use scripts so I thought I might be a lot slower but I'm not too bad. After a while I got faster as I found ways to copy and paste, etc more efficiently. Only up to a point. You'll take slightly longer if you try to do a good job making sure requests follow the rules and such.

I'm completely inactive at both FreeShop and playing HV for the time being. If my other games (with graphics) free up, I'll help out at the FreeShop again. I can't predict when or if that will happen but I play very few games. I just tend to play the ones I do kind of seriously.
