My logic is probably wrong, but I wonder why it would make more processes when I have more tabs.

It's the effect of "[wiki.mozilla.org] Project Electrolysis", which is a fancy way of calling Firefox's move from single-process to multi-process architecture
It was rolled out to stable users in Firefox 48 and became /the/ architecture in Firefox 68 (before that you could still disable it)
[blog.mozilla.org] This explains some of the why's, but the chief reason, as per usual, was to copy was Chrom* was doing

Correct.
That doesn't make it good, though. But it does make it possible that my experimental HTML5 game (which rendered properly in Gecko, WebKit, and Blink) will now work in MS's browser.
I'd filed a bug report (or something like that) for Trident-based Edge a couple years ago, since it was having a lot of difficulty with SVG's constrained by CSS styles of containing flexboxes. They never did fix that in Trident.

Also it's a shame we're basically down to two 'mainstream' rendering engines (technically maybe three, but I have found Blink and Webkit to be essentially the same functionally, especially now that Blink supports APNG).

Well I use both browsers but I think chrome is way more comfortable to link your Google account in search, buying or any other things. Chrome is not only a browser but a member of Google family.

Chrome is facebook of browsers, if you don't care about privacy, use chrome, otherwise use FF.

Various versions of Firefox. Its customization is still second to none, and though some features get stripped with some new updates, it's still quite a bit better than Chrome. Gotta give credit where credit's due, though. Chrome in general is incredibly powerful, and it takes the phrase "just works" to absurdist levels.

I hate Edge with a passion.

It depends on the type of user you are. If you don't really care about your privacy and security, and are fine with google tracking everything, Chrome is probably a more convenient experience and will have greater compatibility with all the miscellaneous bullshit that different websites and services will jury-rig together since they can't be bothered to program well. If you're any sort of power user, or if you just don't want everything in your life stored and traded between corporations forever, Firefox is by far the superior option. While some people in this thread have complained about add-ons which no longer functioned due to restrictions and removed features in Firefox Quantum (legacy add-ons), that was almost two and a half years ago at this point. Currently Firefox has similar (and in almost all cases greater) add-on capabilities than Chrome, most of the complaints are about specific 2017 and older add-ons which nostalgic users don't wish to switch to their successors. It also has many privacy and security features, both in capabilities for add-ons to utilize and directly built in to Firefox, which Chrome flat out lacks, and most likely won't implement for years if ever. Additionally Firefox is open source, and updates more often than Chrome, especially security updates which often come within a matter of days of a serious vulnerabilities discovery. There are also some people on this thread recommending various forks of Firefox, while not bad unless you have a specific use-case for that particular fork or have an absurdly extreme degree of paranoia or desire for customization normal Firefox is your best bet. In conclusion, if you're willing to put a bit of time into doing research and customizing Firefox to ensure your privacy and security than Firefox is by far the best option. If anyone wants specific tips on customizing Firefox for privacy and security feel free to pm me, if enough people ask I might just make a guide.

Chrome. Firefox is good too nowadays imo. The new Microsoft Edge based on Chromium is pretty good too. As good as Chrome. People complain about it has sync issues but I don't use sync feature so no problem.

Well, I always used Chrome. But now I switched to Firefox and it's definitely on the same level of customization, and I really like. There are a lot of extensions as well.
