Okay. I seem to recall reading an essay a while back that made a strong argument for why terrorists should be considered nihilists rather than associating them with any religion or political cause. That's mainly where my current opinion comes from.

How do I keep making blanket statements like that after all I've learned? I'm just an old dog with old tricks, I guess. Which is kind of fucked up, given how young I am.

Hmm... That's an interesting proposition. I can see some terrorists being nihilists, after all even I start thinking from time to time that I would love to cause massive damage at a national level without having a real political, ideological, or religious reason. That's just me being an asshole though, and wanting to see people suffer to get some sort of sick satisfaction.

I would imagine most are spurred by religion or some personal ideology though.

I just thought about it some more, and by definition nihilists couldn't really be terrorists. Terrorism is an act of violence and/or intimidation in order to gain political, religious, or ideological gains.
If you broaden the term to just general acts of violence and intimidation, including for NO purpose, then yes you could group them together.
