QUOTE(cmal @ Jan 23 2011, 00:00) Diebuster is a disappointment compared to Gunbuster. Still fun to watch, but its better to think of it as its own thingy.
So it's not a RE: Cutie Honey-type update thinger?

QUOTE(radixius @ Jan 22 2011, 21:54) Would I appreciate Diebuster, Noah Q. Body?
Related: Do I need to watch Gunbuster to give a shit about Diebuster?
You would not, sir. And you would need to watch Gunbuster to understand a good deal of Diebuster. Frankly, I joke about loving Gun/Diebuster: I do like it, but I don't love it. Gunbuster is basically generic robot anime number 537, with a few interesting twists regarding light speed travel. It is from a time before Gainax really polished its character development formulae, which leaves many characters one dimensional, and many of the actions taken, irrational. Diebuster is more refined, and I would say it's a combination of FLCL comedy with Gurren Lagann action. Nonetheless, it is a tad too erratic, so that although I did enjoy it, I don't think you would (unless you really love mecha from the 80's). If you truly want an annie may recommendation, some that you might enjoy are: - Bartender
- Katanagatari
- Nadia and the Secret of Blue Water (think of it as Evangelion 0, since that is what it is)
- Welcome to the NHK (it provides an interesting look at the gaming and anime culture, including WoW and equivalents)
- Clannad (the only good part is After-Story, but it is pretty good)
- Now and Then Here and There
All of the above are somewhat serious (except for Katanagatari). But I do believe this list consists of things you would enjoy. If you want comedy, I say go with classics like GTO and Excel Saga. Q: I have been wondering this for awhile, sir, but have you watched Gurren Lagann, or do you just like Boobs McGee? This post has been edited by noahbody: Jan 23 2011, 08:17

Ah, thanks for the warning, I was actually somewhat interested, but that seems to have been curtailed. I wasn't really looking for anything new, but I was genuinely curious. I've not, I just like the character design, honestly, even past the breasts, the combination of bright red hair and golden eyes is something I've not seen often, before.

It's not all that good. QUOTE(noahbody @ Jan 23 2011, 02:04) Oh dear me, Yoko has golden eyes! I frankly never noticed those before.
She's got some distracting lady curves.

I figured, which is why I avoided the animu proper.

What do you expect from Gainax, honestly.

The rosin in this new roll of solder doesn't smell nearly as foul as the last roll.

I enjoy a couple of their productions, but most of their shit is overrated.

Yes, I am aware that you enjoyed Evangelion. But curiously, what else from them did you enjoy?

As previously mentioned, RE: Cutie Honey, and, as much as I try to resist it, I still am partial to FLCL, but I do have the sneaking suspicion that the program(me) would be terrible if the soundtrack were different. I think that one I enjoy more for the tone of the story, rather than the merits of whatever plot it had.

FLCL had a plot?
Re: Cutie Honey was eye candy, delicious eye candy and Go Nagai fan pandering. You might try Panty and Stocking, since its in a similar vein, but its not for everyone.

Hence why I wrote "whatever plot it had." QUOTE(cmal @ Jan 23 2011, 11:20) Re: Cutie Honey was eye candy, delicious eye candy and Go Nagai fan pandering. You might try Panty and Stocking, since its in a similar vein, but its not for everyone.
Depends, how much retarded, unecessary fanservice is there?

What about Giant Robo? From Gainax, I like this one a lot, despite incredibly stupid title (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The Pillows or Za Pirrows if you're a Jap like me, did make FLCL somewhat watchable. QUOTE(cmal @ Jan 23 2011, 12:20) You might try Panty and Stocking, since its in a similar vein, but its not for everyone.
That shit should be called Powerpuffs Girls 2: Electric Boogaloo.
