I had been going in and out looking for that fucking taxi for the past hour and a half, when suddenly a cop car pulls up next to me. He asks me what's going on and say I'm waiting for a taxi. Out of the blue, he asks if I was staring at young girls. I ask him what young girls, the only girl I've seen since I've been outside was the girl from up the street, and she's twenty two. Then, the police points towards the park, which is along the main road to get in and out of my little slice of suburbia. Even with my glasses on, I have to squint, and I realize those moving figures over there are girls. I tell him I can barely even see that far, then he asks me if I have ever been in trouble with the law. I tell him no while I storm inside and tell me mom to deal with this shit before I really lose my temper.

So while I cancel the taxi because I'm too pissed to be in public now, my mom talks to the police. Apparently, the girls reported me "looking at them funny". I had barely even noticed them, they were in the only direction the taxi can come from, and waiting for taxi's make me nervous so I had never once even looked at them, only past. them. I had been out there longer than them, I was in front of my house while they were at the park down the street, and even with my glasses on I could barely even tell they were girls, much less see enough detail to admire them if I wanted too.

Worse still, my next door neighbor with five young kids was out on his lawn and overheard the whole thing. Fucking hell. Now I can't go to the store because I'm too pissed, and there's nothing to left in the house to eat.

Sucks to be you. Now grow a pair, and start acting like an adult. Also, Anto that link you posted to the silverchair song was sweet. I just got around to listening to it.

What the hell is the adult thing to do in that situation? I know I wanted to punch that cop in the fucking jaw, and then take a chainsaw and cut those lying little whores up into little bitty pieces. However, I chose to just walk away from it.

Maturity isn't just handling situations maturely, but knowing your own limitations and avoiding situations that will cause strife. My fight or flight reaction had been triggered, I could have either stayed and attacked the officer or left the situation and not dignify the harassment with a response. I chose to step away from the conflict rather than get caught up in it.

Maturity: Not overreacting, running inside, and then making your mom take care of your problems.

Maturity is also knowing when you are in over your head, and knowing to walk away from the situation when it's too much for you to handle.

That being said, I am a very immature person, but I handled that to the best of my capabilities. That isn't saying much about my capabilities, but at least I know my limitations. When God gives you limes, you don't make lemonade.

Who are you calling kid, twerp? I'm five years older than you and from what I've seen of you on the forums you're as immature as I am.

Anyway, stupid would be trying to do something you aren't equipped to deal with. If I was to take your advice and try to 'tough it out', I'd only wind up doing something I'd regret. I am experienced enough with my emotions and mental instability that I can sometimes tell in advance when to let sleeping dogs lie. This was one of those moments.

You're immature because you can't deal with it in the first place. I speak of your mental age.

Given the situation, it sounds like you did the right thing. The right thing for you, anyway. I'm sure any of the other guys here would have talked back to the cop and gotten a serious warning if not arrested, because that's clearly the manly thing to do.

Really, though, why'd you have to go get your mom? I know dealing with the cops isn't fun, but... really? I mean, I'm a momma's boy too, but that's just a bit much.

Here's the thing: I know what you did makes sense, but it's not a story anyone here can respect. Rather than backing off because you're afraid you'll say or do something you'll regret, I think we'd all respect you more for standing your ground. I know you've got some emotional/mental issues (as do I), but if you really have that little confidence in your ability to control your own actions, you need some kind of self esteem seminar or something.

Honestly, I would have been happy just shutting the door on his face, but then he would have knocked, and my mom would have gotten up to answer the door anyway.

EDIT: She's also capable of using tact and keeping her cool in situations, whereas I'm a hothead who couldn't keep my cool to save my life.

You should have understood, it was their word against yours. I would've laughed and made some shit up, like "no they've done this thing before. Everyone just ignores them now". He probably didn't want to get involved in tedius bullshit like that anyway.

After all that happened, I thought it would be funny if I said I was gay and pretend to hit on the officer just to freak him out. That would have really made those girls look stupid. The cheap laugh wouldn't have been worth it though. Bleck.

QUOTE(BradRepko @ Jun 16 2010, 19:14) *
When God gives you limes, you don't make lemonade.

When an incompetent God gives you limes, instead of providing lemons, you make "limeade". For now, consider making the best of your situation, even if you feel you deserve better than limes. Whether you assume God works through people or not, though, you're likely still to blame for much of what you've become. While you wait on God, He may be waiting on you to show up. Limes may be all you got upon your late arrival, once every lemon had been claimed.

True, handicaps hinder you—we all have our aptitudes and limited capacities. But your free will allows the development of sensibility, and if you purposely avoid maturing, then day by day, you will find support to be more and more scarce. Our lives become difficult, if we do not adapt, refining our behaviors and our attitudes, which change only with a change of perspective—one that's willing to grow up and be responsible.

Part of getting second chances is taking responsibility for the messes you've made in the first place, you understand me? And in finding a victim of conflict we identify with, we like them and willingly follow them. But not once they've passed a point of pitifulness and begun actively seeking conflict. Being wired and prone to inciting conflict is your own self-destructive business. Don't expect sympathy or forgiveness, if you're never prepared to ask for permission or even see the need to take any responsibility. Do not project guilt or shame, which shouldn't have been put on you, originally, onto other innocents. Deal with it. Accept your past, move beyond your regrets and learn to cope without running away.

Apply this to yourself, as though you were playing the role of "Brad", and stop conforming to what you feel "Brad" is doomed to be. Make "Brad" what you want him to be, and realize no one's actions but yours need form him, without your permission. This is maturity. This is sanity. This is intelligence. There's no way you can be educated, until you find the curiosity to replace your ignorance.
