A little off topic, but it's sad how scared politicians seem to be of their constituents, with things like fences around the white house, or only being allowed into a governor's office with an appointment.
Not too long ago, there were some states where you could just walk into those kinds of buildings unhindered.
Calling a country a representative democracy or even a republic is a joke when elected officials don't have to meet with their constituents, even the ones that make them uncomfortable.
I like the Starship Troopers idea of making politicians demonstrate that they'd be willing to die in the service of their country before they are allowed to participate in government. When one becomes a politician, that person should be prepared to accept the fact that they may be taking some personal risk.
It's be a good way to root out the cowards who just hide themselves away out of fear of the people they supposedly serve.
The fence around the white house is an injustice and a symptom of our failing political system.
It's unfortunate that the january 6 response was like it was, with politicians openly demonstrating their fear of the people they serve, and yet seemingly half of this country supported the people who called it an insurrection. To me the whole thing was definitely a bunch of retards, but these retards are still Americans and and should be listened to by their government. Even if the ultimate response is to decline something that they demand. The more isolated we make our politicians from the populace, and the less they need to feel responsible for their actions, the worse shit will get.
If a couple of people get assassinated along the way, that's a price they should be willing to pay and a chance they should be willing to take, or else they don't actually care about the country.

wish there was as much left wing activity in that event as conspiracy theorists claim there was. It really feels like something even a lot of people on the left would like to see: for politicians to answer to their constituents and work in their actual interests.
