Yes and no. If someone assumed it was anything other than a novelty gag present then part of the fault is on them.
That being said, over the years they have slowly removed the indicators that is not real lordship. As the ad said you could put lord on things where Lord is not a legal title like credit card or flight tickets....
The way they market it these days seems quite deceptive. They also do not transfer ownership of the land, as the size being 'sold' is below the amount to confer legal ownership.
The social media and customer testimonials for example do not mention the gag / novelty element.
I was personally pretty sure it imploded/ruptured from the get-go, especially after hearing about the window's force rating. But we couldn't be sure, so there was nothing for it but to spin fanciful stories and assume that they lived when (imo) imploding was the more likely possibility (given all the "failsafes" that were supposed to allow the capsule to resurface in emergencies, like the sand weights that were supposed to dissolve and bring them back up).
But there are rich people on the ship, so unlike all the other people who die in america (and around the world) every day, these few people deserve 96+ hours on the news circuit. Since nothing bad is supposed to impact rich people and they found a flashy way to die.
I for one have a modest proposal for preventing rich people from being a burden to their fellow citizens or country. turn this into an annual tradition, sending millionaires/billionaires to their deaths in executions they themselves financed. [en.wikipedia.org] Or we could just follow Jonathan Swift's playbook and eat them.
Tech company billionaires as they're marched towards the meat grinder by their CRISPR genetically engineered cyborg gay transgender anime catgirl employees: "So much for the tolerant left."
More seriously, back when people were assuming the passengers weren't fish food, one of my coworkers suggested they should have had a chain attached to the sub. Sounds reasonable, but then you remember that that's nearly 2.5 miles of chain to reach 12.5k feet. Those had better be some damned good links on that chain.

If you and me were on that submarine I would kill myself after the first couple days when it settled in that we might not get rescued as fast as we would want.
I would just kill the CEO of the company that screwed me over to preserve air for the rest of us.

I wonder if they killed each other to conserve oxygen.
Dammit, beat me to it.

The absolute jealousy of the modern leftist smh my head
But Rad... how can I get things that you have, but I don't want to work towards, without destroying everything to bring about the Marxist utopia that vaguely promises to give me what I want or at least to brutally murder the people that I am jealous of?
The soviet era propaganda clearly shows everyone as smiling and happy.
On a serious note, I think the solution is pretty easy, we force all universities to have a two week program where students do manual unpaid labor on a farm to get a glimpse at the glorious Marxist utopia that they desire.

Become useful to society and you will be able to use the resources you gain to obtain objects and services you enjoy.
Will you have as much as a billionaire leech? No. But does that really matter?
Maybe people should point their ire at people that are actively running society for selfish reasons, cut their heads off (in minecraft) and then redistribute the wealth evenly among the poorest of the population. If you take that payout, you can no longer submit to government assistance regardless of how stupidly you spend this bailout. Kill two birds with one stone, income inequality and tax burden.

You'd think this was common sense.

I'd accept you can be on welfare but can't vote whilst you are.
We are having a housing crisis here.. so our government's solution is mass migration... because votes or some shite. Not even going to focus on bringing in skilled labor...
Medical system failing because lefty government brought in a scheme where disabled people get 100k. Now fucking everyone is disabled.
I'd accept you can be on welfare but can't vote whilst you are.
Yeah; that way we can ensure that systems of poverty continue to propagate indefinitely with no hope of escape. Sounds good to me.

If the average disability check is actually for 100k, then I will consider rescinding my previous sarcasm. As long as future reductions in this payment don't leave people getting 15k/yr while also not being able to vote in a decade or three.

I was thinking more along the lines of the people that are already on intergenerational welfare, who just vote for more welfare. Not sure about the US, but here you can stay on welfare almost forever without that much effort.
There are a lot of people genuinely on welfare but also a lot that do not want to work.
There is an 'unemployed workers union'.

Some people receive 150k per year. Its a bit broken. Though when people find out you have that crip money, they start charging you triple now. So people are asking fro more money.
The program is on track to bankrupt our country, it was budgeted for 4 billion... but now is already 30 billion and rapidly rising.
I want attention. Reply to this and edit the quote to something really embarrassing, and react with like "dude why would you say that" and I will edit this post to say what you said I said

Here, I know people who were going through an existential crisis for fears of disability eligibility changing with the most recent debt ceiling debacle. People who can afford to buy maybe one $150 splurge every two months, which could be eliminated if a landlord decides to raise rent by $80. That's assuming no cars need fixing, no computer parts fail, etc.. in that time.
And one of them had a parent suffering from dementia which was grounds for a little more money (for a dependent). This parent recently passed, so they are probably getting even less help now.
During the debt ceiling shitshow, they felt like they were being used as fodder for political gain by politicians that could not care less about them. Like they were being used as hostages to advance an agenda.

If true, that does indeed sound rather broken. Is there no cap on payout?

Why would lefties actually solve problems? That doesn't win votes. The right is the same 90% of the time.

You can't put a cap on social justice. How can our society achieve Marxist utopia without crushing the current capitalist system? The irony is that the marxists are trying to ban farming in the majority of the country, I am not sure where they expect to get food from.
At this stage I am pretty sure they assume supermarkets will still work under marxism.
If you're aboriginal or a refugee in Australia all you have to do is tick a box on a welfare form and you get more money every fortnight than people working minimum wage.
