Is it still true that making a solar panel take more energy than the panel can produce in its life time?

Yes and no, depends which process and location. It depends on the panel type, Monocrystalline vs polycrystalline (uses more power), where the panels are produced, China emits more than double the emissions per panel and produces half the panels. There are also the mining and transport costs.


Excluding all the secondary energy costs, for the most efficient production of monocrystalline cells they cover their energy production cost and emissions in 3-4 years.

In the real world, accounting for everything, it takes an estimated 25-30 years to cover their total energy cost and carbon footprint. The average real world life is around 7 years currently.

The modelling that solar panels will save the world and end all emissions so we should dump all our tax payer money into them assume they will cover their footprint in 1 year of operation and last for 25 years.

The cheap but dirty to produce solar panels from China have derailed other green energy projects globally.

Regarding gallery-search-paging-gate, the servers should just keep track of the first/last GID associated with a given month and let people jump to <last month>/<next month> as a kind of "fast forward" mechanism.

It won't bring pages back, but it will provide some sense of "where the fuck am I" to know that you're adjacent to April of 2011 and May of 2011. Maybe a couple "pages" away in either direction, but still not totally lost. And it will also be computationally inexpensive since these timestamps can just be in a simple list (or even a lookup table). There would be just under 360 of them so far.

Feel free to point out the flaws in my logic, if and when you find them. I honestly think this could work.

there's no numeric paging at all on the new one. The ellipsis isn't the only thing missing.

I can get the new one with a little bit of url manipulation.

I see the site has implemented jump now. Although I'd have just made 'back one month/forward one month' arrows instead of this complicated text parsing stuff.

Still, looks like they were thinking along the same lines I was (or else I somehow influenced them... doubtful of that)

I wonder how much this will actually ameliorate people, since it's still a little tricky unless you read the documentation to figure out how to use it.

My whore mother died 4 hours ago. She had a seizure for hours, a fever high enough to cause brain damage, pneumonia, after all that settled down she was paralyzed on her right side and she finally just passed away today. My mother has been in a nursing home for over a few years now. They charged her more than her social security paid and so I was left to pay what was left. I'm ecstatic that she died.

She had MS and that with her heavy drug/alcohol use has left her without a brain. Some days she doesn't know anything, some days she knew enough to say "Hi" and ask for a diet coke. I remember one of the last times I visited her she asked if I was her dad. If I had anything I wanted to ask her about herself, or how much hatred I have towards her I wanted to admit, I'm 6 years late.
I should have recorded my mother dying so one of my friends could make "ytp dead mom". The only good thing she's done for me was finally die so I can make fun of her corpse.
