It looks to be only built for a single use so he probably went for something that would do the most damage like steel ball bearings. (That's what I would've used.) I also would've dunked them in rat poison so they were covered in an anti coagulant so stopping the bleeding would've been harder.
Japanese gun laws are very restrictive, so getting something as basic as ammo would very hard unless you're a criminal.

Well beef has gone through the roof here, unless I journey to the sacred meat temple to acquire what I assume is beef for a much cheaper price. Tastes much better than regular beef. Not sure where the temple sources it though.
