I was just thinking about her the other day and she died! Was wondering how old she was and how old she was going to live to be. Aw, that sucks but she lived a long time.
She was 99.
Seemed to be doing surprisingly well surprisingly late in her life, to be honest.
My grandpa at about 90 has trouble walking and I'm not sure he can hold his weight with a cane anymore. He's also very hard of hearing these days.
My grandma starves him to try to keep him healthy (not literally starved, but red meat, particularly lamb, and ice cream - his two loves - are basically holidays only now).
He had a surprising amount of gusto when it came time to cut the lamb, though, so maybe he is doing better than he lets on.
Over the break if she left the room he'd quietly go over to the christmas cookies, take a couple, and go to his computer desk to eat them so he wouldn't be noticed. So the rest of my family was sneaking sweets and cookies into a drawer in the desk so he can have some snacks when Grandma's out.
My other grandparents are the kind that fry things every week or two and figure they'd rather be happy and have a shorter life than be 100 years old and miserable. They're around 75, though, so significantly younger but getting up there.
Anyway, back to famous people.
Dick Van Dyke is the one I'm hoping I don't hear about too soon. He seems like a great guy. And he bought an Amiga 4000 when he was in his 60s to learn 3D animation, so I respect him for not taking the "I'm too old to learn something new" mindset.
Dick Van Dyke is 96 now.
Side thought: his name has aged almost hilariously poorly.
