Wow CCP is impressive. Chinese rejected the three child policy due to how expensive it was to raise children so in response the new property tax will charge you more per year for your properties if you have a smaller family.

So its a tax on smaller families, where larger families can invest more or get a larger tax exemption

The new tax law is

80000 RMB per square meter x (0.01% x number of properties) x 0.7 depreciation (or appreciation in future)

So it will work out to equivalent of $87 to 150 USD per sqm per year depending on inflation. Weirdly the government training admits 30% depreciation this year.

Then you get a family exemption of 20 Square meters per family member. Eg 60 square meter exemption for family of three or 100 square meter for family of five.

So a family of five living in one apartment might not pay tax. A family of three with two apartments may pay a lot of tax per year.

Communism at its finest. We won't reward you, we will just punish you into following our policy. People who have already made their money and gotten rich won't be affected. The were reports of some landlords selling properties en-masse the day before the tax was announced.

The government also announced a five yer freeze on rent prices.

Also you can't own the land, its a 70 year lease at best.


This is like ripping the bandaid off in one go. The only reason I can imagine this policy is to crash property and land prices and then the central government will only bail out local governments that are part of the same political faction.
