A "Key Grip" is the main guy in charge of the lighting and rigging teams on a film or stage set.

A "Best Boy" is the assistant to a Key Grip or a Gaffer.

A "Gaffer" is in charge of the electrical and for making sure that no one trips over cables. Usually they get the Best Boy to tape those fuckers down with "Gaffer's Tape" (a.k.a Better Duct Tape)

I filled in for that job once for a small production, and thought they were taking the piss calling me that for the first few days. Had to fill in too many roles and got the shits. Small productions suck.

Doing paper work, inventory, hiring etc was okay, but I did not feel qualified to do so much electric and lighting and then deal with complaints about taking to long to get things setup. I was always worried about damaging the ancient equipment or bodged together filter setups.

Hmmm I looked up pay rates, I was making $250 a day, which isn't that bad, but the hours were long.

Can't remember how and/or why I bothered to do that job. I remembered why I got annoyed, it was because there were so many people that used OHS as an excuse to not help out with anything.
