Shouldn't this be less political? lol
Somewhere along the line Americans forgot that the supreme court is supposed to defend the constitution and the interests its people.
Partisan SCOTUS is cancer, SCOTUS should keep the branches of government in check and be the champion of the people regardless of which party is in charge of congress / senate / Presidency. However my position has changed to recognise the importance of actually following the constitution or amending / updating it the correct way.
I agree with a lot of RBG's positions but I think their role is not to serve narrow political interests. I probably agreed with all of the positions until the democrats went batshit crazy.
Brett Kavanaugh proved to be moderate.
If Trump nominated an moderate female minority, the left would implode. However I imagine his base will probably want someone right wing moderate. Ted Cruz would be the troll pick.
There are actually quite a few picks that Trump has flagged:
Bridget Shelton Bade (bipartisan support) (judge for only 8 years) classified as nonpartisan
Amy Coney Barrett (judge 3 years) classified as nonpartisan
Allison Hartwell Eid (judge 3 years) classified as nonpartisan
Barbara Lagoa (bipartisan support)(judge for only 2 years) classified as nonpartisan
Martha Pacold (bipartisan support)(judge for only 2 years) classified as nonpartisan
Allison Jones Rushing (judge for only 2 years) classified as nonpartisan
Margaret Ryan (Court of Appeals for for Armed forces (15 years experience)) Does not have Bar Association support? (nominated by Bush)
Diane S. Sykes (16 years experience) was previously in contention.
If I were to guess the top picks: Diane S. Sykes (16 years experience) was previously in contention and is not necessarily a conservative but is a 'textualist' interpreting the constitution and laws based on what is written and interpretation at time of writing.
Bridget Shelton Bade Seems to have bipartisan support as a moderate candidate.
The other spanner though is all the nominations for the past two decades have been from Harvard or Yale, which would make Kate Comerford Todd a potential. I kind of feel that would be a partisan pick.
