I think this might've been discussed before; didn't post it in Serious Debates because that board kind of sucks.

I walked in on the TV when it was switched to Fox News. Apparently, Rick Santorum took some kind of public stand against pornography (shocker). The one guy from The Five whose name I don't care about was saying (approximately) that it was better when pornography was something out of a magazine that you hid away and looked at, and that things today are worse, what with it being so freely available on the Internet, because now it degrades our ability to socialize with real people.

...So, hiding in your closet and jerking to Playboy made you better at grasping appropriate social behavior? Or is he suggesting that the porn today is so much worse (more graphic/fetishistic/whatever) that it alters our minds in ways previous generations of porn did not?

I don't know, I just kind of had to stop and shake my head.

Perhaps, if hentai wasn't so readily available I'd actually have incentive to leave home and go to parties and learn to dance and talk with good looking people about all kinds of stupid things, and break the barriers of shyness, and actually enjoy it.

Then again, if I lived in a cave, I might learn to love sleeping on bare stone floor.

I sent ultimate anime otaku a PM. This is basically the ultimatum. If he responds negatively, then I'm all out of patience. I don't know if I'll shit on his threads, but if I post in them, I damn sure won't pretend that his topics are worth discussing. More likely, I'll try and ignore him altogether.

I honestly don't know much about this italicizing ruleset and what a double leaner (italicizing two words) implies in the grand scheme of things.

I find I use italics usually when I'm trying to convey or emphasis something such as sarcasm or belittlement. Other times I'll use it as a means of quotation. I'm not sure what the written rule on how to use them is, though.

I can't speak for anybody else, but I think 'ultaniota' is generally annoying for the following reasons:

1. His username is about as generic as you could get. This isn't a major fault, but when the name you choose for other people to identify you is one that says almost nothing about you, it provides an easy outlet for people to belittle or dehumanize you.

2. His thread titles are an eyesore. They're long, they're rambling, and they've all been done ad nauseum.

3. His post content is also an eyesore. As has been said before, in the threads he has created that I've bothered to look at, he's already said everything he wanted to in the overly long title and description, so instead he inserts pictures without any real idea of how distended and ugly-looking the post content is going to appear.

There are other reasons, but these three are enough for most people. However, none of these things bother me to the point where I'd give him more than a second thought. The kicker to me is

4. He doesn't understand these problems after the community has stated them to him, or if he does, even worse, he refuses to acknowledge and change. Everyone makes mistakes, especially when posting on a forum for the first time. The issue is that he's effectively imposing by being a nuisance, and he instead seems to expect everyone to deal with it.

If you're going to introduce yourself to a new community and attempt to interact with people, you need to meet people halfway, or get out. I'm not about to try and join a local volunteer group wearing only my pants on my head and a bra as a makeshift thong while constantly quoting 'Scary Movie' and then tell everyone they should just 'get used to it'. Sure, I'm not actually harming anyone, but I'd sure as hell be an annoying nuisance to everyone I came across in public. .-.
