Got to page 694, now it's time to try for sleep before work tomorrow.
If not, I'll try and plow through the rest before it's impossible for me to continue, but I have Daenerys and Arya chapters coming up one after the other when I get done with this Catelyn segment.
Those will be hard to resist.

Dany and Arya are easily my most favorite characters so far.
Dany because everything around her sucks but she's still so sweet and endearing. Also the Dothraki are interesting. Her story seems to have the most comeuppance of all of them so far.
Arya is awesome because she's a spunky tomboy and the trope plays well with the character. Her attitude and behavior, even the actions she displays just seem to have more oomph than anyone else. She's misguided, young, but still amazingly resourceful and quick to act after her short time training with the water dancer.
Sansa, Bran, Eddard, Catelyn, specifically the first two, are so dull and listless, after a while it just seems like Martin's writing them simply because he started them. Sansa being my least favorite by far.
Jon and Tyrion? I can take them or leave them.

I hated Sansa and Catelyn, mainly because I hated them as characters, and the traits I hated about them were present in their point of views, obviously. Namely, Sansa being a bitchy bitch to Arya (thus by default making her a bad person) and Catelyn being a bitchier bitchy bitch.
Jon, I suppose, appeals to the young boy in me (har har pedo joke let's get that out of the way). Jon, I suppose, is probably the most "typical child adventure-ish" out of the cast. He's that boy that we always read about, the young hero who finds himself serving with a famous group. He suffers insults and dislike but shines above it all, makes a bunch of friends then does stuff. The characters he interacts with are in a way those we've constantly seen - after all, Allister Thorne is pretty much that douchey authority figure who makes the young hero's life hell, but the hero's gonna show him. But with reality added, like the fact that he's a baseborn bastard who's a baseborn bastard.
Baseborn bastard. I just like saying that.
