I wanted to make a joke about a giant metal fan being smushed into a sandwich but I guessed it wasn't worth it.

Instead, I'll actually explain:

'Fansub' is a term to describe the subtitles for a foreign movie that were made by franatic followers (or fans) of said moving picture.

Although this definition allows for fan-made subtitles in any kind of movie to be called Fansub, it is mainly used for animated japanese cartoons also known as 'anime'.
