I have several apps that can edit videos but I've been looking for something I can drag & drop a video in, cut parts out and then export it without having to reencode it. As of right now the closest thing I have that can do that is Bandicut Video Cutter but it can only truncate videos, not edit them. Any suggestions?

You can't do very granular cuts without re-encoding. You're bound to keyframes for start points.
ffmpeg can do it, and is pretty lightweight, but it's also a CLI tool so it might take a bit of getting used to. I wouldn't recommend it for very complex editing tasks.

Might be best to work in raw video (or lossless video in some other form) if you have the space until you're ready for the final encoding.

Drag and drop? Lol. You're funny.

Just work in a lossless format until you're ready to encode a final version.

SolveigMM Video Splitter works pretty nice. If you need something more advanced - try Movavi Video Suite.

Bandicut can, but it's cumbersome.

You can drag and drop videos into it, select a start point and end point then export it as it's own video without re-encoding. I have to do that for different parts of the video then combine them in a different app for the results I want. I don't see why there can't be a way to do both in the same software.

And this isn't for my own recordings, I'm not dealing with any kind of lossless raw footage. These are just videos I get off the internet that I want to customize more easily in a less time consuming way.

bandicut cannot do the computationally impossible - for non-raw video, it must encode at least the space between your start point and the next keyframe, unless your startpoint lands on a keyframe.

Alternatively, and my guess is this is what it does, it may be able to manually set a keyframe at the start of the video, consisting of the raster displayed at the starting point, but that ceases to be a 'non-encoding' method in the purest sense, since it is inserting an explicit data point that was only derived from a series of "deltas" in the original data stream.

i use it too. for trimming without re-encoding it's quite nice, even if you *may* have to do some sequential passes with MKV due to how they manage keyframes. and it's even portable.

This topic make me remember that when I change computer, I should find something to graduate from VirtualDubMod (not compatible with .mp4,.mkv and other stuffs, though I still use it after forceful downgrade of some videos even nowadays)

iirc there's nothing that makes virtualdub/virtualdubmod intrinsically incompatible with mp4 and mkv container formats. You may not have the correct codecs installed?

Been a long time, though, and video for windows (VFW) is a nightmare if memory serves. Don't remember if it handles containers or leaves them extensible through third party software like it does codecs.

Well, the apps Evil Scorpio suggested are quite awesome and work perfectly, so fuck you. And it would only be butchering if I were to upload these online somewhere, which I won't. I'm cutting out the useless blowjobs in straight porn, spitting in lesbian porn and the absurd amounts of kissing in JAVs, etc. so I don't have to keep skipping passed them in my favorite videos.

Have you tried shotcut. It's pretty simple to use and I like that it is free & open source.

avidemux is the best video cropper that i use.
Just set the audio/video output to 'copy'.
when save the video it takes less that a second (on SSD) since it didnt do any re-encoding.

Agreed. It's the fastest one I've used.

You can seek by keyframe, and edit by keyframe. You just hit the double >> arrow button and set your splice point and chop.

It's true that it will (often) lead to several seconds of stuff you'd just as soon chop out on either side, but it works well for most purposes. You won't have to re-encode.

+1 for avidemux. Great lightweight video editor.

Also if you're editing just to upload to youtube, there is a very basic video editor built in to youtube. Only recommend this for quick trims.
