Wow. I don't know if its because of tweaks nerfing some of my combat capabilties or if its something else entirely, but I just did Power Flux and Killzone on Normal and ate through my MP like Trick-or-Treaters on a sugar binge.

This.

Hard just essentially become heroic or nightmare, and even with natural regen (which is probably fun for lower arenas and grindfest) it's not making up the deficit.

Also: Fair leather helmet. That is a tad annoying. If there were _something_ in the name that helped determine level it would be nice.

Hmm, lots of new stuff to explore. I do like the reduced magic cost and the idea of Item World, though I'm a little confused. If increasing an item's level doesn't impact the stats at all, why are we meant to be excited about it? Does it do something else that I'm missing?

The challenge is nice, but the rise in difficulty was pretty sharp. Items are dropping a little more so we can replenish our stocks as we burn through more of them, but we still end up in the red. I hope this is one of those things that you intentionally set "hard" so you can tweak it "easier" in future patches as opposed to the "easy->hard" you mentioned in an earlier response.

@Tenb: the magic missile problem is now back full force. When I click on weaken in the quickbar, can you please have it show the tactical magic pane instead of offensive magic, so I can at least see if it's actually selected so magic missile doesn't go off?

Also, and I'm going to shoot myself for saying this, but can you add some training for increasing special/elixir drop rates? Maybe up to 5% each starting at like 10,000C (or less, if you're in a good mood)?

Also, parried and blocked attacks should cause flame spikes and co. to deal damage.

Also, can flame spikes and co. tell us how much they actually mitigate in their descriptions when used?

Damn, ET now becoming a (mini)boss / harder dif exclusive thing... Mobs on more reasonable difficulty are fainting from the mere demonstration of stick after AoE actually manages to proc the CM.

Also, I REALLY miss trimming.

I love the item world (I suggested a way to level up items yesterday). However... meeting a manbearpig w/o silence today on my first attempt w/o silence... not cool.

Edit: am I missing something? Where's cure?

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Oct 30 2009, 09:45) *

Magic Revamps

- All offensive damage spells have been rebalanced.
-- Tier 1 single-target spells now do slightly more damage than normal attacks (except for being magic/elemental), but costs significantly less to cast. (Less than 1/4th of the old cost, in fact.)
-- Tier 2 single-target spells now do roughly the same damage as the old Tier 1 spells, at half the old T1 cost.
-- Tier 3 and 4 single-target spells do less damage (about 60% of before) but costs about 35% of the old cost.
-- AoE spells for the most part do the same damage as before, only at a lower cost.

Yay! Cheap AOE spells! (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Oct 30 2009, 09:45) *

Battle Regeneration

- Battle regeneration for players has now been enabled. Each turn of battle is equivalent to two seconds of natural regeneration. Note that the same rules apply for this as for the proc check, so you will NOT regenerate during turns where you use Defense/Focus, nor when you "skip" a turn.

- Increased the effect of endurance on natural health regen to /5

- Increased the effect of wisdom on natural mana regen to /25

Yay! Faster Re-gen. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Oct 30 2009, 09:45) *

Equipment Changes

- By order of the EPA, we're reducing the amount of garbage produced in the verse. All weapons that can drop with a proc will now always drop with a proc. No, this isn't retroactive. Yes, that means that pre-patch no-proc weapons are now only worth whatever you can get from the equipment shop. No, I don't feel for you.

Could you reset the weapon side of the Equipment shop to purge all of the non-proc weapons?

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Oct 30 2009, 09:45) *
- New non-metallic equipment no longer has the X-adorned/tipped/trimmed part of the name.

This makes shopping harder as an Average Cotton Cap could be of any number of level ranges now. Before the material type told you the level range of the equipment before you hovered over it.

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Oct 30 2009, 09:45) *

Drop changes

Loot drop rates have been tweaked further:

- Consumables now drop at a rate of 50% health, 30% mana, 10% spirit, 4% scroll, 4% infusion, 1% elixirs and 1% "special"

- Artifacts are now about five times as likely to drop randomly. They have also been changed to all have the same "value" (10k).

- Equipment is now about twice as likely to drop randomly. Base value has been halved.

- Rare+ mobs should now give the intended amount of credits.

Yay! Re-enhanced drop rates.

The Item World

This sounds interesting. I just bought a Level 9 Shield to try IW later. Although, Power Magicking in Shield World will seem a little silly. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Oct 30 2009, 09:45) *

Misc

- When you're hovering over a piece of equipment, you can now hit Ctrl+C to pop up a description box of the item in question. You can use the URL for this box to link the item to other people. If they're logged on, they'll see it with scaling to their own level. Which should be useful for trading and stuff.

This is totally not working for me. I still have to use the Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C, paste, delete all the excessive info method.

@Tenboro: You Have Ass-Mail. (Check your PMs.)

Plus coming back to the site and hitting an Random Encounter and finding you have no magic except Magic Missile is real fun a mage. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I just realized my crushing, slashing, and piercing mitigations are down 11, 7, and 6 percent respectively. That, along with primary attribute cuts, is painful, and helps explain why it appears we're taking more damage.

Introduced the supportive spell Spirit Shield at level 190. With this spell active, all received Soul damage will do damage to your spirit bar instead of health. Each point of Spirit will absorb 10 points of damage for each ability point put into the skill (so 1 spirit point per 50 damage maxed).

Sounds like something went wrong with spirit shield, since you're definitely not lvl 190.

Any chance we can get a non-elemental, generic physical damage variant of Spike Shield? You could drop it in on one of the lower levels, like somewhere after Shield. You could even make it use Shield as a pre-req.

LOL, using release thread for suggestions.

Gonna drop a "Great changes all round", Tenb, cause I'm finding the rebalance works really well for someone not on the bleeding edge like myself.

I don't use magic much at all - purely to prop myself up rather than against enemies, but the natural regen and drop rate changes work well I'm finding.

That said, one question - is the Item World meant to have an EXP cut like the Grindfest considering it's difficulty drop, or is it's EXP rate so high due to the lack of credits? I just decided to do a run of a level 21 item - way below my level - failed on the last round, but got enough EXP in the process to beat out my DAILY EXP gain pre-0.4/Item World. Seems a little... powerful.

If it's by design, then great, but it seems such an oddly unbalanced amount of EXP considering the rest of the game. Like, I don't see why I'd Grindfest anymore. I might as well just hit the IW - not with the intention of winning, but just to gain ludicrous amounts of EXP.

LOL. Or make it so that when you take the new Skill, it turns Shield into Spike Shield. You get all the benefits of Shield, but now with physical damage reflect a la Thorns Aura. Because Shield is pretty shitty since it just absorbs damage that doesn't amount to much.

Shield is actually more mp efficient than cure when it comes to a high number of enemies at once. When I'm facing 7+ mobs on endgame or above (not sure I can even get there anymore) I use shield because reducing 7+ attacks by 38dmg each turn for 30 turns is good (even better if you have a sucky evade rate).

I'm gonna take a shower, and I see Tenb in this thread, so maybe there will be a response to some of this insanity by then (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

@Tenb: in case you're skimming through my stuff since I post so much, I actually made some serious suggestions several posts ago (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I just realized the changes mean we can find ethereal staffs with ether theft, nice.

Cure II and Regen II cost a bit too much MP to cast. Gawd.

Also, I got Item Slots V on the ability page and it didn't give me an extra inventory slot. And I reset my page and everything.

Great update Tenb.

QUOTE
Moving "Silence" all the way up to Level 110 is EPIC FAIL.

I just killed Dalek in a mob of 9 with just shield, barrier and 1 greater mana draught, thought it was in avarage item in Item World on lvl 27. so he was severly weakend.
Now i have tried Dalek in Ring of blood, he seemed to deal quite a bit more dmg on avarage and without "Silence" than before the update, i have spent 2 scrolls of shielding, 1 warding and 7 superior items. With that i could not take half of his HP. Btw this was just a test run since i have already beaten him about 10 lvl's back.

So the result is: For now Ring of blood is available only for players lvl 110 and above. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
Without Silence it is you who will be silenced (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Tenb: As reward in battles sometimes i get like 8ish credits for beating a mob of 3-4 and other time i get 40ish for the same mob.

Is this some weird intentional randomness or a bug?

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Oct 30 2009, 08:45) *

Silence has been bumped to level 110.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Oct 30 2009, 08:45) *

Meaning that it will take more hits to kill monsters, meaning that Cure will need to be cast more, and the cost for that hasn't been reduced. (edit: qualified in later post)

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Oct 30 2009, 08:45) *

- You can now cast a spell on a mob that is affected by Coalesced Mana as long as you have enough MP to cover the cost after the bonus from the buff is taken into account.

Yay!

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Oct 30 2009, 08:45) *

- Coalesced Mana is now triggered by spells instead of normal attacks. All magic that is targeted on a monster can trigger the effect. It will now also last two more turns.

- A monster now has to be affected by CM in order to trigger the Ether Theft effect. When it triggers, CM is consumed.

- Increased the amount of mana drained by Ether Theft.

- While a monster is affected by ET, the proc you can trigger by casting a spell on it changes from Coalesced Mana to the self-buff "Channeling". Channeling will make the next spell a free cast (no matter what type), makes it impossible to resist or being interfered, and increases the spell power by 50%.
-- For offensive damage spells, this is a 50% bonus to damage. For direct curative spells, this is a 50% bonus to healing. For supportive, deprecating and heal-over-time spells, this is a 50% bonus to duration.
-- Channeling lasts for four turns, but is consumed when you cast a spell.

This makes Ether Theft a net loss. You not only need to have enough mana left to cast an offensive spell, you need to cast it enough times to have CM attach and to have ET attach during the few rounds that's active. Casting more than a couple times trying to produce this will cost more mana than Ether Theft returns.

So to get a free spell, you need to cast magic until you get CM, then physically attack it until ET triggers, then cast magic until Channeling triggers? It'll take some practice to adjust, so we'll see. It makes non-ET staffs pretty worthless, though.

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Oct 30 2009, 08:45) *

- After clearing an item, you cannot re-enter it for 24 hours, but you can immediately try again if you're defeated or escape. You can only enter the Item World 10 times per day (dawn to dawn). You do not gain any credits inside the Item World, but you can still get other items or equipment while in there.

All rounds must be cleared in a single go?

QUOTE(Tenboro @ Oct 30 2009, 08:45) *

- Also, I'd again like to reiterate that I've never played or even heard of the game Disgaea.

Unlikely. You have to know this is part of that game in order to know to deny it. How can you even know the name of a game you've never heard of?

Overall Reaction: Cautiously Optimistic
