Once you get to 100+ things will get more difficult for non 1h builds, and you're going to have to mix in the SoL spell into your repertoire. Long Arenas will be tougher/slower with 1h, but my suggestion is to do them on lower difficulties and if possible, do them with a reloader script. The upside is the random encounters, which don't take much time, will become easier and you'll be able to do them on tougher settings.

Your stats are completely fine for mostly any melee build.

Your only issue is the weapon.

When DW, were you using a rapier on your off-hand slot?

If so, it would explain the notable difference on cleartime if you were playing on higher difficulties where monsters have more HP.

Rapiers offer a Penetrated Armor weapon proc, while axes only offer a bleeding wound.

Using axes with 1H can be okay if you kill mobs faster than 1~2 hits on lower difficulties(normal~nightmare), but if you take more than that, using a rapier is much better for the cleartime aspect.

Other than that, using 1H + shield + leather isn't the best build past level 200, as 1H users need to be actually hit to have a chance to counter and stun monsters, so with a chance to evade attacks, your counters will be reduced.

Using leather is a good option while you are raising your 1H proficiency, but as long as you are using the Spark of Life spell(advised to get Innate Arcana Hath Perk and slot SoL there), using heavy armor shouldn't be a problem.

It's more advisable to change to heavy armor when the player gets to level 200 and gets a new supportive spell, Spirit Shield, but if you feel you aren't taking much magic damage, then using heavy at your level would be better to get more counters.

Just in case, but if you aren't using Spirit Stance, start using it instead of skills.

High-tier coupons have always been underestimated imo. It's not like such difference in prices can be justified by the lack of interests as collectibles. But to be sure you should checl how credit counters change after shrining a few of them. Try asking some higherup or toplisters.

my equipment suck...i cant seem to get good drops for heavy armor...the axe i use is notably the best i have right now.but thanks i will stick to 1H and slowly switch to heavy armor.i didnt quite understand the part with spark of life, but thanks for answering (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Question. Is it better to do Arenas on the highest manageable difficulty or the highest easily manageable difficulty? For example, in my case:

70+ round arenas on Hell: take about 25-30 minutes each, not a lot of micromanagement or potions needed, but lower quality drops and less XP per stamina.

70+ round arenas on Nintendo: take about 45-50 minutes each, needs constant use of deprecating spells, an infused weapon and dozens of draughts, but better drops and more XP per stamina.

Should I try to get better gear by playing Hell before attempting Nintendo or stick with it and power through? At level 250, I'm probably at the worst point in the game, where any "free gear for beginners" equipment is too low-level and the equipment in WTS threads is too high-level for the next foreseeable 50-100 levels (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

It really depends on the setup, and especially for lower-mid level players, I'm pretty doubtful there's a one-size-fits-all answer. To identify the best solution for you personally, use Income Summary to weigh profit against time. (or something else that logs XP, and weigh that against time, if that's what you value)

That said, if you're using depreciating spells as melee, you're probably doing it wrong. (use a rapier instead, for PA, if you aren't already)

Draughts are free (or nearly free) so I wouldn't worry about endlessly chugging them.

Note that "better drops" basically just translates into "more valuable bazaared trash" in 99% of cases.
