I was just wandering... Back in the day, weeks ago, when I was playing 1h melee, I always thought 'focus' would be handy for mage. Just like 'spirit' is handy for melee. Why would they make a separate button for focus, otherwise? But now, as a mage, I never use it either. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) What's with that focus button? Is it realy that useslles? Is it just some relick from the early days of HV?

If you have excess overcharge you can spam focus to restore mana.

There are quite a number of useless abilities. Focus is one of them (now). It used to be OK for melee back when total mana regeneration over a battle series was limited, but now that items can be re-used infinitely, Focus is now pointless.

Mages won't have OC, and melee will gain more profit / turn by using that spirit stance to attack or OFC.

"Focusing will leave the player unable to Evade/Block/Parry/Resist (-100% penalty)."
"Focusing lasts for 2 turns - the turn in which it was cast and the following turn."

Well, that's not a bad idea if you do it in the last round of an arena with 1 monster remaining...you'll have full mp in the next one (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
In all the other situation, focus is bad (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/heh.gif)

Use it when the last monster of a round is stunned.

Not everyone is endgame mage and not everyone has OFC.

You can save a few mana draught or potion here and there.

How does MonsterLab works?
The wiki says the monster will participate in battle at PL 25.
I gave my monster a name and skill name and it's above level 25 but I don't see it doing anything.

Even from the perspective of a low level player, the conclusion is the same; just restore mana when you're finished, that's much less easier, as well as being pretty much free.

If it's named and it has morale and food, then you just need to wait.

Don't expect much. Monsters don't give gifts often. You'll probably only see one every 2-3 days.

If you are doing mage (actually if you are you will have no OC but whatever) you risk a mp/sp attack that will do a lot of damage just for getting 5% base mana?
If you are not maging why would you sacrifice 1 turn, possibly health and OC for 5% of base mana?

I've been doing that with the old potion system, now with mana draughts costing nothing it's completely and utterly useless (and you should pretty much never have the need for potions with melee style).
Even if you don't have OFC 1H skills are still leap and bound better than using Focus (and if you're low level spirit stance usually uses already all your OC).

1 weak monster remaining with 1h...half mp bar, full OC.
A bit of fast clicks on focus, mp full
Touch the monster, dies, arena cleared
Five seconds wasted (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Fatality first, then Overpower. Butcher is 3rd choice.

Reminder. Gotta pull forward. Fatality 1st.

Let's see how it works out. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

OFC is quite cheap now (400-600k or even less) and very useful, if you play melee it makes sense to buy it ASAP.

I honestly think IW hates me... After over a dozen resets, I managed to grab butcher and fatality on my 1h, but ended up with 5 butcher, 3 fatality and 1 overpower... Should I keep it?

Yes. If Butcher was the goal, and no swift.. I'd keep it.
