QUOTE(Koudesu @ Aug 30 2011, 13:45) I'm wondering because I now have a tendency to die like an idiot when 3 or more giants decide to all use their specials on the same turn. It's happened more than 3 times today, and a few times yesterday as well.
Edit: I'm also still looking for some guidance on my current stats. I've upped my Endurance to 110 + 4 since then, with rather minimal effects. The screenshots are on page 406.
Sooner or later you will want to convert your exp tanks into spirit tanks and overcharge. Until you reach LV190, when you get spirit shield, before that you probably want max out spark of life and silence. Agility is quite important especially for shades.

Spark of Life's Cloak of the Fallen buff makes you immune to damage the turn it is triggered (used to last ~5 turns), so if the first hit kills you you're safe from the rest (for the rest of that turn at least). The following turns it gives the 300% physical & magical absorption stat buff. You'll probably need to recast it the following turn.

I should explain spark of life with a bit more detail then.
Spark triggers when your HP drops to 0 or below. Basically, 50% of your base SP will be consumed when spark triggers. If you don't have enough SP, the effect will not trigger, so you're basically dead. SP is not consumed when spark is cast, so you can still cast spark without 50% base SP available. The only difference is that your HP will turn silver only when you have enough SP.
When spark is triggered, 3 things will happen. 1. You're raised from dead and cured for a percentage of your max HP, depending on AP on spark. (10/15/20/25/30%) 2. You gain cloak of the fallen effect. It will grant full immunity to any damage on the turn spark is triggered, so basically you won't be killed twice in the same turn. 3. After that, cloak of the fallen will triple your physical and magical absorption for the number of turns equal to AP on spark. You can be killed during this period.
I think that should answer all the questions.
Edit: ninja'ed

Guess that means I should put more than 1 point into Spark.
@dcherry - I have looked at Leather gear, and I might consider it. I'm not that poor though. Just being frugal is all, but if being frugal gets me killed, I think I can afford to spend some creds for decent gear.
@MidNightPass - Wasn't Tenboro going to nerf Overcharge damage? I was actually thinking about getting points for elemental resistances, but it appears not many people use them in the first place. I am planning on going back to Shade gear after I get enough proc to land Domino Strikes with a 70%+ rate, and I'll keep the agi thing in mind.

You will still need SP tanks for spark of life, and spirit shield later. I am not sure about the OC part.

IIRC, Tenboro was (is?) planning on removing the bonus Overcharge gives to melee damage, and instead use it to somehow meter skills, once they are implemented. I can't remember where I read this so I could be wrong, but I think Spirit Attacks are going away too, or are at the very least changing somehow.

I've done this since lv.20 (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif) Which is almost 2 years ago... I don't understand why people wanted to leveling so fast in this game since the game clearly doesn't designed to be play at above lv.100 ... Some don't even cared if their character are any good as long as they can gain their lv fast (razorflame is a good example). I've even deliberately slow-down my exp gain in the past so that my prof and gears can catch up to my lv. Even that, anyone can just go spam 10 replies in Spamhaus before playing HV, which is what I'm doing from time to time when I wanted to power-leveling, to get huge exp boost without a single AP spent. @ KoudesuPlaying melee without putting points in OC boost? Blasphemy! (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) You still need a lot more work in all aspect; stat, gear, ability, and the player himself... You can't expect a few END above your lv. (which is not high) to cover your damage received wearing low defense armor. You can't expect to hit hard by have more attack rating or ADM while you have 0 point puts into OC boost. And you can't play melee at higher lv. effectively without a smart use of supportive spell or an outside power to compensates. Melee, while playing it in battle is pretty straight forward, building and preparation for your character before getting into battle is a highly complex and tedious process indeed. I hope you can overcome this problem someday in near future. (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

This new Estoc allowed me to cut through lvl220 Arena with ease. Eight pots :3 I suddenly realized that there was no point in running around in Kevlar+Void Estoc on Normal Schoolgirl Run, so I switched to Crappy_Shade+Void Estoc set, changed autocast slots fron ss+shield to ss+haste and voila~

What happens when you cast a spell you have on auto-cast? Is the upkeep reduced?
On a completely unrelated note, just raised my Divine prof from ~140 to ~160 with a single EoD run. Wahaha~

No, it's just like you've casted the spell. (you need to pay the full cost unless it's chanelling) There's duration for the spell, and no upkeep cost is needed. When the spell ends, you need to have at least 25% of mana in order for the autocast to re-activate.

You do have a point about the proficiencies though. I'm almost level 110 and my proficiencies in Light Armor and 2H mastery are still around the 70s. I'll try out some OC gauges later, but just to clarify; SP tanks are just for Spark of Life usage, and the occasional Spirit attack? Edit: Oh, I need them to up the OC gauges.. QUOTE(Shizo Karen @ Aug 30 2011, 21:28) I just cleared it using this, but I only did at most 5k crits with 260 OC boost. Are you using slaughter armor pieces? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Nope. Only a shadowdancer shade gauntlets. The rest is kevlar. ~175 2H prof... Sucks, eh? (IMG:[ invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Also, everyone playing melee must get yourself an eth estoc. It's broken as fuck... I might even request Tenb to nerf it! Fuck this. I'm quit it right now until something change for Niten, which I doubt will ever come... This post has been edited by buktore: Aug 30 2011, 18:53

Wait, so putting points into OC will increase attack? How? It only says Maximum Overcharge will increase by 2/4/6/8/10%.
