Every level of LotD reduces your chance of Crude/Fair gear and increases it for Fine+. But the biggest difference I've seen in lower chance of Crud/Fair is playing on higher difficulties. I haven't played on anything less than Heroic (except daily FSM on normal), and I have seen almost no Crude drops at all. I'm actually seeing more Fine than Average in fact, and quite a good chunk of Superiors. I even got an Exquisite arena bonus reward this week. My LotD is 9/25.

Slow (and Sleep) may have low durations, but keep in mind that it may in actuality be double, triple or higher (depending on your action speed) as the ratio of your turns:monster's turns increases. If I had to choose, I'd go with 5 point Haste and 1 point Slow. Haste tends to wear off faster than Slow. The duration gap will shrink as you fight Legendaries and higher as they're faster (you'll need both up for double turns).

I disagree about 1-AP in Slow. 5-AP Slow already lasts almost no time at all until you've pumped your profs up really high, and leaving it at only one point halves that. It's a waste of MP to cast a 1-AP Slow, imo.

Besides, until you get to the Endgame arena, and start fight Boss-level monsters regularly, deprecating spells besides Weaken and pretty useless. Weaken's awesome against minibosses like Canuck and Manthra, when it's gonna take you several turns to kill them. But until a monster is going to take 25+ turns to kill, it's not worth using any other deprecating stuff.

EDIT:
So I'm approaching level 200, and access to X-Nerf. What do you 200+ folks use X-Nerf for? Should I respec to get enough AP to pick it up immediately, or can it wait a few levels?

SECOND EDIT:
And speaking of level 200, could someone direct me to the strategy discussion for Trio and the Tree? All I know about them is that when each one dies, the others get buffed. I've got no idea how best to handle them.

For X-Nerf, I only use it when there are 3 or more monsters that need nerfing. So only at the end of Crusade, Trio, and the Legendary arenas. It's not essential.

Trio on normal is a cakewalk. Think of them as 4 Bosses essentially. You don't need to worry too much about their death procs unless you're playing a difficulty that "stretches" your survivability. Kill Yggdrasil first as he can heal all the others.

Mm, I'll have to concede the point, my memory seems to be off.

@Lv80 I had 3 pts in Slow (9 turn duration, 3 turns @ 1 pt) and my deprecating proficiency was ~80. With double-turns that becomes an effective 18 turn duration. I had 1 pt in Haste, which with ~70 prof puts it around 17 turn duration. It was enough to kill all the Legendaries in the RoB (normal), and made random boss encounters much smoother.

Oh, so there is a potential use for Silence? I actually spec'ed completely out of it recently. Is it worth keeping?

It's not really important, but you can still use it. (like absorb)

I'm doing some wiki updates, and I noticed an interesting line in the Deprecating section of the Spells page:
QUOTE
It should be noted that even though Lifestream is categorized as a Deprecating Spell, its use increases Forbidden Proficiency.

I remember reading that Lifestream used to be affected by Forbidden prof, but has been fixed to benefit from Deprecating. But is it still true that using it increases Forbidden rather than Deprecating prof?

Trying to compare damage potentials for 2 pairs of pants i recently got...
Fox Phase and Gossamer Elementalist

Which would give more damage - the 6 points of INT on the phase, or the 25 elemental prof points on the elementalist? I'm not really seeing much difference switching between the two, though admittedly they've been small sample sizes...

So, I got a question, though I think I can probably answer it myself. What happens If I use confuse or sleep on a monster, along with poison? Poison is damage, so will it dispel it? or does it only count damage I deal with attacks?

Just want to add: 5/5 AP Sleep & Confuse have a 50% chance of not dispelling on damage (10% @ 1 AP).

Read through the first ~10 pages and it helped a little but I think I need a little more "specific" advice ie advice catering more to me.

I've done some experimenting since I've been trying to figure things out on my own so hopefully people can see my thought processes here

Attached ImageAttached ImageAttached Image

Set 1 was evasion maximization with two handed
Set 2 was same as Set 1 but in favor of one handed + shield
Set 3 was physical damage mitigation maximization

Set 2 best for survivability but my killing speed was neutered by a *lot*
Set 3 was pretty nice for cakefests but Normal monsters still stacked 50+ per on me.

I guess what boggles me most is how people are able to grind through multiple rounds of Grindfest/Arena etc on Normal while I'm often struggling

Attached ImageAttached Image

But I'll start small and hopefully figure things out. So please bear with me and let me know:

a. Are my stats decent? I'm not sure whether the all balanced stats or extreme stats provide more advantage. Been reading up on STR/END being >> rest but I've also noticed some people advocating WIS

Thus far I haven't seen much credit going to DEX/AGI so I'm wondering, may I have over-invested in them for the time being?

b. Is my strat considered pure warrior? I've read about how people are saying Pure Warrior just *doesn't work* and I'd like a strat that'll work in the long term. Was thinking of going magic but I've read about how pure mages don't exactly work too well either.

c. Is poison worth getting despite my low INT and probably my low magic rating?

d. Evade vs physical damage absorption vs magical damage absorption? Or should I simply look for an all rounded maximization and take what gives the best overall bonus? (I was doing this beforehand)

Most of my gear is pretty junky but that's probably because I don't have much direction yet so I've been holding off on shopping. I just use whatever I find. Once I'm more familiar with what suits me better, I'll probably upgrade the gear to things more usable (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
(And yes I'm saving my exp at the moment so I can pump into what's best advised)

Thanks!

- Get more WIS
- Get more Aura.
- Get better gear...
- At this point, don't worry about how you allocated stat point too much, it can always be fix later with not much difficulty.
- Melee is fine on its own. But compared to Maging (broken), it still way too underpower and need much more efforts. You get to do more stuff playing Melee, though.
- Most high LV. people are pure mage, so your impressions that "pure mage don't work well" is obviously false.
- Poison is worth getting if you have AP to spare. You only need it to fight bosses.
- At your LV, Heavy only work when the situations allowed it (like cakefest or Item world). Evade is what you should focus on for now. Later on, you can start to use more exotic gear combination if you not switch to mage yet at that point...
- Try not to play Cake too much, it hinder your progress.

EDIT:: add something.
