and with melee, he can last maybe 10-20 rounds. Or on cake, that turns to 60-80, but that gets maybe 400-500 credits for 30 min+ work.

Maybe if he exhausts all 10 IWs daily doing the easy-crude IW exp runs, then I can imagine putting even more time into HV via grindfests, but if not, he should be doing IWs.

Don't bother with Grindfests. You aren't at a point in the game where you can do them yet with any beneficial results. I don't even bother with grindfests right now unless I'm grinding proficiencies, which is pretty rare right now.

I spend most of my time playing the daily arenas and doing IWs. Even though I'm a mage, I still only do IWs and daily arenas because they are just better uses of my time than grindfests right now.

Back when I was around your level, I was using high mitigation, high absorb Heavy Armor with a really good, high bleed, high ADM Longsword to help me get through IWs. Listen, even though you cannot beat them, you should still go into them to get the most experience you can. I was even going into Fair and Average items because of the higher experience I got in them.

The advice I'm giving you is two-fold:

First; beat all the daily arenas you can every day. That is going to be the main source of all the credits you gain. If you get any equipment with the suffix "of the Fleet", any Phase, Dragonhide, or Kevlar equipment, post them and ask for what they are worth. Sell any other equipment you get to the Bazaar for good money.

Second: After you've beaten all the daily arenas you can do that day, go into all of the item worlds you can in that specific day. The items really don't matter, just make sure you go into them on Cake difficulty wearing a full suit of Heavy Armor and wielding a Longsword with good bleed and ADM. Once you get the gear, you should easily be able to gain several levels a day (I was gaining almost 4 levels a day back when I was your level using this strategy).

Anyways, if you have any other problems, feel free to send me a PM and I'll address any further concerns you have.

A lot of really good info here in the last couple of posts. It looks like there's still a lot I have to change, because right now my equipment looks pretty sad compared to the suggested amounts (I have an Average Longsword, but my main weaponry has been a Fine Axe and Rapier of Balance...) - Heavy leggings, but with Light feet and a Cloth Helm, gaining proficiencies in the 3 kinds of armor besides Shield at once.

Now, when you say "Full suit of Heavy", do you mean straight down from helm to feet, and all Crude if possible? Is it suggested I find these off the WTS here on the forums so that I don't skew through the 2.6k Credits I have left? And I assume the Arenas are meant to be done on the easiest possible difficulty as well, since the base credits they give out for winning don't change at all.

Basically, to sum up my questions to the series of posts:

1) Full suit of Heavy Armor = All applicable fields equipped?

2) Clear both Item Worlds and Arena on Easiest possible difficulty allowed?

3) Use Immense Level Crude Items for IW?

4) Should the Longsword be Crude as well (for IW level raising)?

Thanks again.

EDIT: After reading the posts and making my own guesses while I wait for volunteers to answer, I went ahead and spent the last of my credits on getting a number of Heavy armor pieces I could afford but that had "decent" stats for the price. I also snagged a Level 114 Crude Robe of Protection to IW within. I've noticed a definite difference so far, as even though I accidentally entered the IW on Normal I managed to last an entire 67 rounds before finally succumbing, which was nearly double what I managed at max with my DW setup. I've linked a screencap of my equips below, if anyone wants to let me know if I'm heading down the right path given the advice I received.

[img833.imageshack.us] http://img833.imageshack.us/f/statsqn.jpg/

Also, would *anyone* be willing to purchase/send me this Fine Longsword I found in the Bazaar? The Bleed is a far better percent comparatively, and it looks like the stats should increase over time. No pressure, just wanted to throw it out there, if that's even possible.

most of the time not, but it has it has some uses but it's too situational. If you want to stop monster spells it's better to use silence.

I have it against legendaries or bosses at the higher difficulties when you can't afford not to use weaken (silence cancels weaken)

Absorb has a chance to nullify an enemy spell and give you some MP. More points equals a higher chance (and maybe better duration). It also works against magic-based spirit attacks. The scroll of absorb is 100% absorb chance against one spell. Be aware that magical crits ignore Absorb. If you want Absorb to have a better chance of being useful, you'll want to Bewilder your enemy. You can stack Weaken and Bewilder.

Weaken plus Spark works about as well as you think it would in most occassions (auto-life as long as you have enough SP).

you can, but unless you are carrying some spirit potions with you or invested in lots of spirit tanks, you can only revive yourself twice.

absorb is sometimes a (slight unreliable) backup against spells and spirit attacks that are magic

Does scroll shadow veil stack with our own buff? I tested it out and saw a significant increase in my evade.

The spell version works only against physical attacksand the scroll version works for everything
I think they stack, because they don't work exactly the same.

QUOTE(PommyN64 @ Feb 10 2011, 03:42) *

lots of stuff

Just a correction, I think you heavily misunderstood something. First of all, the equipment you're wearing is not limited to crude. Of course, pick the best equipment possible. I might be able to throw some high-ish absorb stuff over to you if you already wasted credits on crude equipment. As for crude equipment runs, what you do is flee on the last or second last round, so you can enter the item again. It's best to buy something level 200+.

For equipment, you should really have two sets: one for IW grinding and one for arenas.

For IW, you want as high absorb as possible. Does not always have to be heavy, but most likely, you'll be wearing all heavy pieces. If you find some kevlar or dragonhide, they usually come with pretty high absorb as well. Of course, activate your green aura to get an extra 2 points of absorb. The point of this set is so that you can grind on low difficulty IW while everything does 0 damage to you. Use shield and cure in later rounds. Personally, I did cake-crude if I wanted item drops (artifacts and potions) and easy-crude if I wanted exp (a little less exp, but can be accomplished in half the time). Normal-crude wasn't worth doing, as I spent too much time and mana keeping my health bar filled.

For Arenas, you'll need a bit of experimentation. Many people had loads of problems in arenas as a low level melee. I personally found a fleet set + niten to be the most successful, using haste, shield, cure, and weaken on melee heavy opponents. You can use that as a guide, or create your own strategy. I don't think high absorb will work on arena, especially the latter ones.

Clear arenas on normal. For the earlier arenas, you'll most likely be able to clear them with oodles of mana leftover. Spam extra mana to grind out either your supportive or curative proficiencies. If you want to prepare for maging, put one AP in fireball, and spam fireball in the last rounds of arenas for elemental prof grinding. You may need to jack up the difficulty of earlier arenas if you want to do the latter, else, your fireball will end up killing stuff before you can spend all your mana.

Try linking all your equipment here (especially your heavy pieces)

Razorflame managed to (wonderfully) explain a lot of that earlier. I didn't waste too much on Equipment, but I know I wasn't looking for *just* Crude. However, I didn't exactly get too picky on what I bought, so I can guarantee what you had in mind to offer is probably much better - as I said to Razorflame, if you're willing to part with ANY of it to help my cause, you have my untold thanks ahead of time and my assurance that it won't go to waste. As for the IW grinding tactic, see the next quote response - I'd already been doing the last-round-flee tactic before reading this, so yay!

At the time of this post, I've JUST hit level 40, and Green Aura was what I'm activating next, so good to hear I was on that front. Right now I'm Easy-Cruding a Level 114 Robe I picked up in the Bazaar earlier, which seems to be managing well for me; I could go farther with a higher level item if I found it, but not unless I switch to Cake or get better defense equips. As for elemental proficiency, both Cure and Shield get plenty of spare use whenever I pick up a Mana Gem or the like that can replenish what I spend, or that Second Wind can help with. As for Elem Prof, most of that comes little by little from Montages when I'm sleeping (used fireball like 3 times before first AP reset long ago, but hey! That's all you need to include it!)

Stupid me went and got rid of some (read: most) of my Light armor when I made the switch to heavy, but it shouldn't be too long before I can afford some decent ones off the Bazaar (or shops here, if I feel like spending the time). Again, like I said to Razorflame, going to have to find a Rapier and shield again, but like the armor that's just a matter of time and patience.

I will gladly get a paste-collection of sorts for you, but you'll have to give me a little time to do so - I got something else I gotta finish in about 30 mins before I can set to work on it. Check back on this post in about 45 mins from now, and there should be an edit with the picture on here.

EDIT: dkplee, sorry about the wait, I'm still in the middle of an Item World grind. I'll make a new post when I finish with the Equipment stuff.
