Makes sense, but I guess i need some extra aura from donation to be able to do that or tons of credits for high-end gear.

speaking of real life, what kind of gear should a pure mage build use?

i am thinking of dual wielding with my battlecaster rapier and ethereal axe. what do you guys think?

also which one should be the main hand and which should be the off hand? i am thinking of main hand axe and off hand rapier. is it right?

and what kind of armor should i use? the usual elementalist amor seems useless. shield aura doesn't seem to help much as well. i am currently thinking of either demon-fiend (too rare and in high demand), fox (quite common and in low demand), or battlecaster dragonhide (rare and low demand).

any experts care to enlighten me?

A pure mage use a staff, in this case a katalox one. Demon-fiend gear.
If not, use silk and battle-cast with rapier in the main-hand, PA+spells, and use a shield or high parry dagger (low interference).
Oh and btw, Eths aren't good for casting spells, just because of not having interference.
In case you melee, then Eth axe+rapier.

So I've been considering switching to a mage build since it seems to be an interesting playstyle, and it seems everyone is a mage once they are level 200+. Is there a good primer on playing as a mage? As a DWer, all I focused on was evade gear and high ADM/Bleed/PA/parry on my weapons. I've been going through the wiki, but there doesn't seem to be as much information as the melee playstyle.
What I understand so far is that Electrical is the best elemental damage type due to only 2 npcs having resistance to it. It also seems that fire is the best element to pair with elec due to their synergy with their spikes in reducing enemy resistance. Dark also seems to be popular with some of the later spells. My biggest concern is gear. It seems Mjolnir is probably the best in later levels. Right now fox/elementalist seems to be the most popular, but I am unsure as which I should aim for. Is fox more for people who don't have enough magical accuracy yet? I assume gearing should be +dmg > proficiency > int > evade?

Good primer as a mage: target a monster with the right spell and 1 hit or 2 hit kill the mob.
I prefer using elec , but i think that some people use fire because fire tier 3 is accesable 60 lower than tier 3 elec.
Your main issue is your damage and profiencies, because evade is only needed if you can't one hit kill the mobs.

For acc you can use a focus staff with the arcane focus skill to get a +100% boost to acc (never miss) and concentrate on damage on all your other gear until your stats give you natural 100% acc anyways.

I like fire spell at my level because you have access to tier 3 Flames of Loki and the third 10% boost, and Searing Skin will help with 1 hit clears if you are borderline. Searing skin currently deals about 40% of a regular mobs total health per tick.

I'll probably switch to elec when I hit tier 3 elec.

So as a mage, if you focus on only one element, do you sort of get the shaft when it comes to powerup gems? According to the wiki, you can't get another gem if you have one currently unused. I would assume that you would keep up your respective elemental spike as much as you can for the bonus damage, and the powerup gems overwrite yours. Or rather, do you just keep using the powergems regardless of what type they are?

i don't think that the elemental spikes boost the element's damage, that's the infusion that's boost the damage. Atleast i don't notice something.

edit: the spikes give you that element's mitigation though

just damn spam and overwrite them, if you are lucky you can even
every mob can drop a gem while fighting, so is better to use instantly the elemental shield, the spirit ones and depending on the situation even the health one

the only ones that need to be used wisely are the mystic and mana ones

at least i do so because for me the spike shield hit for 7HP and the proc effect for 30-40

elemental gems are useless. i use them all instantly.

spirit gems are useless to me too so they get the same treatment.

the only ones i will hold on to are health, mana and mystic gems.

it is possible. they are only Resistance to elemental, not Impervious to elemental. but it will take very long and in the process trigger a few sparks of life.
