I gave up on heavy around lv.80 I think. Switching to kevlar gave me comparable protection, higher evade and resist, and interference between 20-30 (depending on particular gear setup).

Get Innate Arcana's for Shield and SV.

There seems to be a giant speedbump eveyone hits around level 40 or so. Not sure what the exact cause is.

I don't know why people get this. I didn't notice any step in difficulty at level 40. I suspect the effects of poor equipment choices just naturally start to make themselves felt around that point...

I'm not even level 20 and I'm starting to feel the pain of bad equipment choices. Changing it over to better gear though, and getting rid of the unnecessary heavy armor. down to just heavy boots, and trying to find silk, leather, or chainmail for the rest of the spots.

At around 40, even the best Heavy that made the game so easy for up till now, can't keep up in arena for long.. since monster ATK damage grow pass Absorb it provided.

Also, Fresh Meat is the first arena that you will face more than 1 mini-boss, there's quite a bit of people (me included) lost their first arena here, which will be a wake-up call for them and feel that thing is changing.

You did't feel anything, perhaps because you don't use full heavy? New player who didn't use Heavy at the beginning and didn't have good equip tend to find the game difficult from the start. (just look at the complain in this thread)

When cure was a 40 level ability, it existed.

yep I especially suffer fron the poor cure spell at this level, seems like a waste of mp
on blazing field and fresh meat, cure can' t regenerate the damage done by monsters in 1 turn, and for my equipment they do double turns while i barely damage them only when penetrated

yet now i made for miracle blazing field, and losed in fresh meat because in the 8th round, in one single turn, i got damaged from 8 monster + toddleguro spell
384 dmg when my hp are 687, i was at half health.. and i even wasted a greater potion right before that turn (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/cry.gif)
FUUUUUUUUUUUU...

Yeah thats why you start stacking avoidance of some sort (evade, block, resist, Shadow Veil, haste [getting double strike effectively avoids half the damage you would otherwise take])

I know you cant quite do it at your level yet, but if you're using heavy its best to ditch it now. Also don't worry about burning health potions, they're absolutely useless later. A godly mana potion gives me something like 300 mana, and a godly health potion gives me about 4000 hp. For 300 mana I can cast regen about 10x+ times, and each regen currently gives me 95x22 (~2000) hp. 2000x10... 20,000hp per mana pot vs 4000 per health pot. mana pots are 5x as effective for restoring health as health pots are :/ So chug your health pots as much as you like for as long as they're still mildly useful.

A good rapier, a shield with solid block, and a cloth/light armor mix should help if you arent already running that.

currently i'm buying a full dragonhide armor (kevlars are too expensive) except for a cloth cap that alone gives me a +1 int, +3 wis, +1 agi, +4% evade (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
burden and interference will go to 25-30 without proficiences
i'm quite worried if evade chance (total 12-15%) and resist (15-20%) will be enough to cover for reduced physical protection... at least i will no more oneshotted in the turn that all monsters launch their spells (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/anime_cry.gif)

i'm DW with a rapier in main hand and a high bleed sword in offhand (total of 18% of parry)

at my level these values and this equip are the best that i can obtain...
maybe i will add another cloth piece with high evade by itself

I'm just starting out so looking for tips to help a newbie get off to a good start. Planning a melee build so have been putting points into str, dex, agi, and endurance. I've noticed there aren't many skills that seem melee oriented?

Will that change or should I be dabbling in some magic?

Also what type of stat progression should I be looking at?

for melee keep the first 4 stats at your level number... the rest of experience put it in wisdom

use all ability points for health and mana tank

when you go level 10 unlock cure and item slot

use heavy armor and low difficulty

for credits keep fighting in arenas and grindfest

don't buy equip in shop, you will have better pieces at lower prices in WTS forum section

when you will have a decent equip if you want to level fast go in item world

hp tank, mp tank, spirit tank and oc... poison, cure, shield, regen...

as for the rest of the ap allocation advise, you will have to wait for those pros that does melee...

for stats, focus on str, dex, agi, end, wis...

str is more for melee damage, dex is more for melee accuracy, agi is more for action speed, end is more for hp and hp regen, wis is more for mp and mp regen...

thus if i were doing melee, my priority will be on str and then followed by the rest.

you still need the tier 1 spells because of the rating and also because tier 1 spells is more mp friendly.

i am still using tier 1 spells during the item worlds, grindfest and arena.

the only time i will switch to tier 2 spells is when i encounter the boss level or higher monsters.

So I've seen an awful lot of talk about CakeFests. Are they really any better than a Normal Grindfest, and worth doing instead?

in cakefest you can survive more rounds...
but the quantitative of experience and credits are really low

i dunno if the extra time required for do it is well rewaded

Maybe cakefest was more usefull before the previous update, but i think that i earn much more credits now on a higher difficulty.

question about mages, is holy magic any usefull on my level? It cost more mp to cast than any elemental magic and it isn't very usefull against normal monsters.

cakefests are generally for looting items (difficulty doesn't affect % of drop)

Cakefest

Q: What is Cakefest?
A: It's mean to Grindfest in Cake difficulty level.

Q: Why would I want to do it?
A: It's a relatively straight forward and easy way to get some start up money for new players.

Q: Get start up money? How?
A: Your main aim here is for Artifact, which you could sell to another players for 10,000C.

Q: Why don't do Normalfest then?
A: You will die before you could fight 8-9 monster per round, the main aim here is to kill as much monsters as possible within a given amount of time.

Q: What would I need to do Cakefest?
A: A high Absorb armors (usually Heavy) and a decent Longsword (2H weapon) are the usual receipt.

Q: Now I enter Cakefest, what should I do?
A: Try to survive as far as possible, you will get to kill more monster per round as you go further, which translate to more chance of Artifact drop.

Q: The EXP I gained are so low!
A: You do Cakefest for money, if you want EXP, play Item World instead.

Though because of the update, thing might change a bit, but the main goal is the same.. which is an Artifact.

From what i have experienced, the monsters in the item world are much weaker than the grindfest monsters. So if you are going to farm exp and items (also artifacts) , then the item world would be better (except that you can only enter it 10 times a day).

Then you will not get credits at all if no item drop..

The main aim here is Money, an Artifact would be an ultimate prize but you can't always expect it to drop, you will at least get some credits in cakefest if nothing valuable drop.

It's not a way to get rich, however, just for start up.
