About solstice gifts: maybe it's a silly question, but does someone know how to make Snowflake open them? Should they be offered at the Shrine or something like that?

Currently, no. But Tenboro is tracking what you've offered to the Shrine in the event that he DOES do some sort of set, in which case such rewards will be awarded retroactively. Or so he's said.

Only thing is, we don't have any sharks. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) So nothing to mount the laser on even if it did work.

I am 99.999% certain that it does not happen without massive changes to the artifact system which of course would render everything coming before it obsolete because of the artifacts that still drop, I think the only one I haven't gotten is the Vorpal Hilt.

You could try modifying the harness to fit an Amphibious Sperm Whale. The jet engines might get in the way, though.

Well, now I'm curious. I would've thought that after a certain point, the first tier spells simply aren't powerful enough to take out the monsters quickly. So I can only assume one of three things: 1) that I'm wrong, 2) you just have some kickass equipment that boosts your magic like crazy, or 3) you have lots of AP upping your element ratings (which I never do unless I have them to spare).

If nothing else, I'd be curious as to where you use the first tier spells the most, because it's been my experience in the Arena that I don't have time or mana to waste casting the weaker spells.

you could just hold onto inferno, and pick up the extra fire rating, since I'm assuming that fire is your primary attack spell. Really there isn't a good way to keep mana up as a mage. IMO the current incarnation of ET still needs alot of tweaking, something like coalesced tripling the the chance of ET procing, and bring back the chance of procing ET on normal attacks at a reduced chance. That or increasing coalesced proc rate by a good chunk, which is probably easier to implement. Or making it so your natural mana regen is doubled when a staff is equipped. But for now if you plan on playing as a mage in upper arenas be prepared to use lots of mana draughts.

In arena, I'm sure I'd need to use the stronger spells, but so far I've only been doing IW, since I don't want to waste my arena entry fees until I've perfected my magery. And the minibosses I've run into in IW take several tier-2 casts to kill, by themselves. I've very afraid to face a full-powered one in the arena, let alone 2+ at once.

As for the power of the tier-1 AOEs, I can usually kill a 9-mob in 4-6 casts, depending on crit and resist luck. But with the tier-2 AOEs, it takes me at least 3 casts, and then some mop-up time to clear out the last few. 3*12 mana per round vs. 5*5 mana per round is noticeably cheaper, though good luck with Coalesced Procs does close that gap a bit, which is why I often mix up my tiers through a round. I'll often cast Inferno first, and if I get a Coalesced Proc on a non-Cold-resistnant monster, I'll cast Blizzard on that one.

But I honestly don't usually see a +140% damage difference on the tier-2 AOEs, so the mana efficiency is poor. I'll probably have to sacrifice mana efficiency for kill speed if I want to do arenas, though that'll eat through my dwindling mana pot supply really fast (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/sad.gif).

As for my equipment, I linked it in my original post. I don't know how that compared with other mages' gear.

I have full points into every tier-2 +rating ability, though I'm thinking that I should probably have put those into tanks, instead. I could really use that 20 AP for more sustainability.

you really should be able to 2 blast normal groups with 2nd tier spells, other then a few stragglers that got partial resists. It might be better once you get your int up, other then that I don't know.

Now that you mention it, your INT is probably the problem there. Since magic damage is calculated (somehow) from Magic Rating vs Barrier Rating, a low Magic Rating is really going to hurt you. With your current proficiencies and all that Elementalist gear, two tier 2 AoE spells should be sufficient to take out pretty much everything, including the mini-boss.

People obviously have different definitions of junk. I trip over "fine" pieces of equipment all the time, and do you know what I do with them? Sell them straight to the bazaar because they are generally terrible. (There are of course exceptions)
