Might I ask is there any benefit from going really deep inside grindfest? [except gaining more crytal]
Will I get better quality equipment drop or something else?

I always quit around round 80-90 btw.

There's some loot quality bonus when you go deeper. So you're going to have better drops (equips/items).

Because I'm simply amazed - while browsing many shops - what people get in GF I have to ask. Just out of curiosity how deep you have to go to actually get something worthwhile?

Was determined to get some useful Magnificent (always get shields, grrr...) or Legendary (never got one!). Did 2x 300+ish Hell* runs over past 2 days and all I've got to shout about is ~2000s crystals, shit load of health potions, 2 artifacts, 2 trophies, 4 crudes (IMG:[www.emoticonsfree.org] http://www.emoticonsfree.org/wp-content/uploads/sign0094.gif), 3 fairs, 4 averages, 4 fines and 1 superior cotton. I'm fairly confident that I could stay in GF forever without using single potion - recharging mana from overcharge. But day is only 24h long, need to sleep/eat and go to work sometimes. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Always ~lvl 200 I'm so bored that just blast everything in sight, starting to use all mana and goodbye. It is a bit fucked up, need to play 20h to get something**.

@Dissu at level 169 or 170 you hit first 1st bonus threshold (I think). Always get +1 crystal added to the drop at that time.

* - couple weeks ago did battletoads run or two. Not fared much better (except more crystals/potions but at least I've got fat lump of credits after that).

** - if it was possible to recharge stamina while in GF but not playing I would stay in game for another day, but it is not so...

the deeper you go in a run the more damage monsters will do to you with a normal attack. That will eat your mana/spirit so you have a limit on how long you can play.

I'm well aware of that. In all times let say up to lvl 300 it is not big issue. Sometimes, it takes some patching up with Soul Harvest, but is manageable - at least with my limited exposure to deep GF regions. (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I just quit because of immense boredom, so I can't say precisely how long I can survive.

aizenteppa: You can put energy drinks in item slots. But there's a cap at 500 rounds I think?

It is not doing one long run, it is doing several long runs, every day, for months on end. I've only got one drop worth more than 100k in the time I've been HVing I think.

I recently acquired these two staves because I'm a dumbo and wasted double noodlies.... and from what i know of HV...Exquisite is usualy good enough to keep items like this around...to ask questions about:

You can give to noobs or sell to shop. Not worth salvaging t2s. Staves are ok option for noodles, don't worry (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Decent - worse than good - would be magnificent <elemental prefix> Ebony of Destruction/Elementalist with high appropriate stats, or magnificent katalox of <elemental boost>/Superior Katalox of Destruction with high stats(35+ MDB for destro)

For starter, long-term mages dont use elemental spells anymore, so obviously Katalox is the best choice

Ebony is more of a pre-150 mage's choice

Well, for what Coma means is mag hallowed/demonic katalox of destruction at least.
Sadly, those are kind of rare.
Luckily, this means mere exquisite of destruction with MDB in ex range and other stats decent can still sell for nice chunk.

A good Destruction Katalox should have 30+ MD, 2 or 3 PABs (INT, WIS, AGI), EDB of 2, Proc chance of 30% with 1.5 base turn duration. Attainable even with Superior quality.

Unfortunately for Ebony staffs, what mages want is Elementalist suffix since the prof boost more damage than EDB at this point and they wont use elemental spells as soon as they unlock Forbidden spells.

Agi does not exist on staffs except as a potency.... and 30 MDB destruction staffs isn't good, think at least 35 or so. Proc chance isn't as important as duration either.

Honestly, 30 MDB on a Destruction is crap (and I'm an optimist about stuff being useful). MDB is all Destruction has going for it, if it doesn't have that it's shit, unless everything else is Mag Max or some similar insanity. 34 is where things start getting interesting, 37 (Ebony Exquisite Max) is where we start throwing money at you, but I'll take a good Element staff with 21-25 MDB and solid stats elsewhere over a Destruction with 30 MDB any day.

With Ebony, the <150s and those with crappy prof want Elementalist, the few crazy souls like me who run it above 150 want either very good specific element or very good Destruction (because lets face it, Elementalists need all the help we can get).


@zentetsuken It's 5 PAB, missing END (of course). It's Exquisite, but not Protection. It's decent gear for a lower level light armor player, but since it's not Protection and not even Superior Max PMI (and no END!) it's not going to set the world on fire. Waste of a perfectly good max INT roll tbh (IMG:[invalid] style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) . It's still Exquisite Kevlar, thus useful to newbies, but I'd appraise it somewhere in the 5k-20k area.

At your level, I'd expect Banish mana cost to be prohibitive outside REs and shorter arenas (though it might not if you've got some Pack Rat trained and bring high tier potions). However, more tanks, Pack Rat, Godly Pots and better stats starts fixing that fairly quickly. You'll get both in fairly short order if you want to Holy mage.

The damage difference is ~25%, which absolutely justifies the mana cost once you can spam it, dead monsters can't hit back.

It's situational. If you're struggling with damage or finding it's taking too many turns to clear rounds, then you might need to use Banish/Ragnarok, but otherwise it doesn't really make sense to cast more expensive spells when cheaper ones work just as well. You just have to experiment and figure out what works for you. Also, remember to take advantage of the -50% MP cost you get by casting spells directly on a target with Coalesced Mana.
